  • The Barcelona Supercomputing Center
  • Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads largescale investments and HPC provision in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has over 900 staff from 55 countries.

    Context And MissionKey Duties*
  • Join the Autosubmit development team to improve the Autosubmit workflow engine.
  • Evaluate the use of taskaggregation techniques (aka wrappers) in MareNostrum5 and other supercomputing facilities.
  • Implement automated decisionmaking for the taskaggregation process.

Requirements:


  • Education
  • Having a Bachelor in Computer Science.
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
  • Excellent development skills in Python and OOP, and experience with UNIX/LINUX environments and scripting languages (bash,)
  • Understanding of HPC computer architecture issues including CPU, accelerators, memory, interconnect, parallel I/O, and computational performance
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
  • Experience in version control in a collaborative environment, including SVN or Git
  • Previous experience in scientific Python packages (Python Numpy, Scipy,) will be valued
  • Previous experience in contributing to the development of a workflow manager for Earth Sciences
  • Fluency in English
  • Competences
  • Capacity to interact and build strong relations with both Earth and Computer scientists
  • Excellent problemsolving skills with a proactive approach
  • Willingness and capacity to learn about new technologies and procedures
  • Capacity to work and communicate in an international and interdisciplinary working environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize and work under set deadlines and under pressure
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team

Conditions

  • The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department
  • We offer a fulltime contract (20h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with stateoftheart infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan.
  • Duration: Internship
  • Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
  • Starting date: February 2024
