    Context And Mission
  • Within the Earth Sciences Department of Barcelona Supercomputing Center, led by Prof Francisco Doblas-Reyes, the department aims to deliver novel, advanced and wellevaluated highresolution global climate models, capable of simulating and predicting climate estimations with unprecedented fidelity.
  • The successful applicant will join the Computational Earth Sciences group and data diagnostics team (~20 people) to provide support with the data of the department to the scientist needing data, as well as attending their data download and formatting requests, following international community standards, through the ticketing system of the department. The download and formatting will be done through existing tools and by the development and improvement of new ones.
  • In parallel, the successful applicant will also develop a data indexing and search interface to allow users to navigate more efficiently in the database.

  • Manage the user support of the data download and formatting of the department
  • Develop a search interface for the data of the department

Requirements:


  • Education
  • Having a Bachelor in Computer Science, Physics engineer, Mathematics, Physics or related discipline
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
  • Experience with UNIX/LINUX environments and scripting languages (bash)
  • Basic knowledge of python
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
  • Knowledge of climate data formats (GRIB, NetCDF) and tools (CDO, NCO, xarray) will be valued but are not mandatory
  • Competences

Conditions

  • The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department
  • We offer a fulltime contract, a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with stateoftheart infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, tickets restaurant, private health insurance, fully support to the relocation procedures
  • Duration: Openended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
  • Starting date: Between 15/01/2023 and 01/04/2023
