  • Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads largescale investments and HPC provision in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has over 900 staff from 55 countries.

    Context And Mission
    Key Duties
  • Conduct innovative research on multilayer networks for rare diseases and precision medicine.
  • Develop computational tools rooted in network biology and systems medicine.
  • Collaborate with the Computational Biology group and experts within the Life Sciences Department, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations.
  • Publish research findings in reputable journals and present at conferences. Oversee and mentor students, offering comprehensive guidance and advice within the BSC research environment.

Requirements:


  • Education
  • A completed Ph.
D. in a relevant field such as bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or a related discipline.

  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
  • Expertise in network biology, particularly in the context of rare diseases and precision medicine.
  • Proven experience in handling and analyzing largescale biological datasets.
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in bioinformatics and computational biology, such as Python, R, or similar.
  • Previous experience working in a highperformance computing (HPC) environment.
  • A track record of publications in reputable peerreviewed journals demonstrating research accomplishments in relevant areas.
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
  • Familiarity with collaborative research environments and experience in interdisciplinary research projects.
  • Previous exposure to projects involving the integration of different omics data in the context of biomedical research.
  • Experience in the development of software tools for the scientific community.
  • Knowledge of rare disease research and precision medicine initiatives.
  • Participation in international collaborations, conferences, or workshops related to the field.
  • Competences
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, execute, and manage research projects independently
  • Flexibility and adaptability to contribute to different aspects of ongoing research within the group
  • Commitment to promoting diversity and inclusivity in research, with an understanding of the importance of considering the strengths and lived experiences of women and underrepresented groups.

Conditions

  • The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department
  • We offer a fulltime contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with stateoftheart infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
  • Duration: Openended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
  • Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
  • Starting date: 01/01/2024
