The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education.

ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level.

Research is organized in the following main areas, Malaria and other Infectious Diseases, Maternal, Child and reproductive Health, Urban Health and Child and environmental health, Climate & Non-Communicable Diseases.

    What We Are Looking for:

ISGlobal is seeking a full-time LAB TECHNICIAN who is interested in taking over and managing activities of the project "Molecular basis of the bacterial resistance to antibiotics: design of new antibacterial agents".


The overall project goal is to continue developing the main research lines of the group: molecular basis of the antibacterial resistance, pathogenesis and design of new tools for diagnostic and treatment of bacterial diseases.

The activities in which the LAB TECHNICIAN will be involved related to the Project will be:

  • Collect the samples and the material used by the research group and organize them.
  • Analyse and characterize the bacterial strains from different samples and its antimicrobial susceptibility.
  • Be involved in all the research lines developed in the research groups and provide the support needed.


The tasks will be developed in the Microbiology Department at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and at the research laboratory of Dr.

Jordi Vila's group at Centre Esther Koplowitz (CEK).

The project Code is 2021 SGR 01569.


Key Responsibilities:


Specific Duties:


  • The duties will consist on ensure the correct organization of the laboratory and to provide support to all the members of the research group (PhD Students/ Postdoctoral Students / Visitors / other Lab Technicians.
  • Training and experience /Qualifications:
  • Previous laboratory experience in the microbiology field. Experience in antimicrobial resistance will be highly appreciated.

Selection Process:


The selection process is designed in two phases:1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation.

To assess the person's skills and CV.

  • Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.
If needed any technical test could be pass. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.
