Music that marked my life

I was thinking about which music bands have marked my life. There is a long list:  The Cure , Dire Straits, Ramones, The Police, Depeche Mode, Héroes del Silencio, Queen, Duncan Dhu, El Último de la fila, La dama se esconde, Loquillo, Nacha Pop, Supertramp, U2, Simple Minds, Pet shop Boys, Kortatu, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, The Specials, Smashing Pumpkins, The Smiths, Bob Marley, The Beatles and specially Lennon, The Clash, The Kinks, Rage against the machine, Eminem, Coldplay, Collective Soul, The cranberries, Manic street preachers, Oasis, David Bowie, Zoé, Enrique Bunbury, Amy Winehouse..... OMG ... I can go on listing them and I don't finish !!  ..a long list !!!

But there is only one that makes my blood boil....... we say "me hierve la sangre" . I don't  think it is right in english but I like it :)..... that band is THE CURE. Their music is difficult to classify , often like funeral parties, dark, recurrent basses,,,,

I lost my uncle recently to Parkinsons and so I have had some first hand experience of how devastating these afflictions are, but one must find all ways to remain strong as a family, for these are supreme tests. I'm very pleased to learn that the last faculty to be lost by Alzheimer's patients relates to the love of of music. Both of my parents suffer from the horrible disease and are in a nursing home, where my mother no longer recognizes my father. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and a former Irish dancer, my mother still enjoys hearing jigs and reels. Dad still prefers his Big Bands, with a side of Frank Sinatra. If I end up in a nursing home, I hope the staff appreciates the Doors.

We can create multiple streams of timelines about different aspects of our lives and each track we associate on those timelines would tell a different story. It is no wonder that in Alzheimer patients, music is usually the last faculty to be lost, which highlights just how powerfully music can permeate our life stories. My 70's timeline includes buying albums by 10CC and The Eagles, the 80's Stranglers and Depeche Mode. The timeline is punctuated by the media of the music, so all my purchases in that time where vinyl. I can remember my first vinyl purchase but strangely cannot remember my first CD purchase. Then there are cassettes, MP3's and now You-Tube and all of those represent the way people got music for free. Then there is the relationship between film and song and here I can never forget Nilsson and Everybody's Talkin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AzEY6ZqkuE

A great list. It is sad to see the death of the guitar in modern music. Yes every band has guitars, but whatever happened to the classic riffs we grew up on. Mark Knopfler in Tunnel of Love, Slash - opening riff in Sweet Child O Mine, Clapton, Santana, Hendrix, Page, Keith Richards, Brian May, BB King...
