Elvis Costello last night in Madrid // anoche en Madrid

Authenticity.

A man and his guitar, and sometimes the piano which has lent his wife Diana Krall and has promised to return it without a scratch.

A man with a great sense of humor and many many stories to tell. And he told them. Some of them even singing.

Elvis Costello gave us a show last night in Madrid midway between concert music and monologue “Comedy Club”. At the end of the show my companion told me “We’ve never seen a show like this before”, my answer was that I had never laughed so much in a music concert.

I got the feeling that Costello enjoys this "DETOUR", a concert/therapy for him in which he spoke about his childhood, his grandfather who was a boy bugler with British troops in the first War World and the appearances of his father also a musician and singer on television (please don't miss video below ) and how he, Elvis, tried to unscrew the device to “liberate" him.

He gave us some magical moments as some of the projections in a big old TV in the center of the stage or his walk through the seats on the ground floor, guitar in hand, while singing "Alison" with all the people in the theater standing up.

Thank you Mr. Costello for your music and your energy.

Un hombre y su guitarra, y en ocasiones al piano que le ha prestado su mujer Diana Krall y a la que prometió devolvérselo sin un rasguño.

Un hombre con un gran sentido del humor y muchas muchas historias que contar. Y las contó. Algunas de ellas incluso cantando.

Elvis Costello nos regaló anoche en Madrid un espectáculo a medio camino entre concierto de música y monólogo de Club de la Comedia. A la salida mi acompañante me dijo que nunca habíamos visto un concierto de estas características, mi respuesta fue que nunca me había reído tanto en un concierto de música.

Me dio la sensación de que Costello disfruta mucho con este “DETOUR” que se ha montado, un concierto/terapia para él en el que nos habló de su infancia, de su abuelo que ejerció de chico corneta con las tropas británicas en la primera Guerra Mundial y de las apariciones de su padre también músico y cantante en televisión (por favor no te pierdas el vídeo insertado abajo ) y de cómo él, Elvis, trataba de desatornillar el aparato para “liberarle”.

Nos regaló momentos mágicos como algunas de las proyecciones en una gran televisión antigua en el centro del escenario o su paseo por el patio de butacas, guitarra en mano, mientras cantaba “Alison” con todo el teatro en pie.
