George McLaurin, the first black man admitted to
the University of Oklahoma in 1948, was forced to
sit in a corner away from his whites. But his name
remains on the honor list as one of the top three
students in the university. Here's his words:
Some colleagues looked at me like | was an
animal, no one gave me a word, the masters
seemed to be there for me, and didn't take my
questions. But | devoted myself so much that
afterwards they started looking for me to explain
and clarify their questions ".
