Takes proactive steps such as technology transfer initiatives, standardization efforts, patent filings, white paper authoring, tool/service development for internal use, or consultancy for product/business groups. May disseminate research to stimulate the creation of new intellectual property for business efficacy.
- Introduces new technology and methodologies into production by channeling enduring research endeavors to address immediate product requirements. Collaborates with and bridges researchers (across the company community, Microsoft Research [MSR], or their respective organizations) with development teams. Initiates negotiations across teams to ensure application of cutting-edge technology to products in a pragmatic manner aligned with key business objectives. Fosters an understanding of research methodologies used across a group/organization to leverage existing solutions rather than reinventing the wheel.
- Independently works to yield product impact. Identifies, devises, and implements a research-informed solution (e.g., pioneering, data-driven, scalable, extendable) to positively influence a Microsoft product or service. Delineates an approach to resolving crucial business problems in collaboration with senior team members. May disseminate research to catalyze the generation of new intellectual property for product impact.
- Acts as a domain expert within the product domain. Acquires profound knowledge in a complex or highly ambiguous service, platform, or domain. Shares insights into industry trend shifts and advancements in applied technologies with engineers and product teams, applying sophisticated concepts to address product requirements and propel solutions. Cultivates a product audience rooted in industry understanding.
- Reviews business and product prerequisites and integrates cutting-edge research or tested solutions from both Microsoft and academic spheres to craft strategies that align with business goals. Identifies issues and devises strategies to tackle team or feature-level challenges. Provides strategic guidance on data utilization for problem-solving.

The team focuses on developing reliable, highly scalable, and efficient distributed systems for data analytics on Azure, actively engages in top-conferences, and contributes to open-source initiatives.
