Context And Mission
In our pursuit, we focus on a widerange of key societal research areas such as Population changes and living arrangements, Democratic Quality, Social Media and Information Environment, Social-Ecology, Education and Labor Market, Law technologies, Social Innovation, and History and Cultural Heritage. Employing a mixed of complex statistical models, AI/Machine Learning, Large Language Models (LLMs), Agent-Based Modeling (ABM), Social Network Analysis (SNA), among others, our advanced computational methods are applied to diverse datasets from official statistics, surveys, social media, news, laws, historical archives, current data archives, citizens' volunteered data, government and industry data.
As a research engineer and data scientist, you will play a pivotal role in facilitating the researchers' work, working closely with the Research units at CSS and reporting to CSSH lead Mercè Crosas.
Key Duties
Providing support adopting the researchers' code to High Performance Computing
Providing support with data analysis, including AI/ML models and advanced statistical models
Developing research tools (e.g. computational workflows, addons of existing software, etc.) to help researchers carry out their tasks.
Working close with the Computer Science (CS) department and the Operations department to be a bridge between these units and CSSH

Requirements:

Education
MSc in High Performance Computing with Data Science or similar
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
Handson experience with python, R, and C (at least one of them)
Experience with data analysis, such as using Python ML libraries or R statistical libraries.
Experience using HPC.
Experience with data processing, data cleaning or preparing data for analysis.
Good fluency in both spoken and written English
Competences
Competency in Python or R
Good knowledge of HPC and Distributed Computing
Good communication skills for effective collaboration.
Ability to work both independently and within a team.
Hardworking and highly organized.

Conditions

The position will be located at BSC within the Directors Department
We offer a fulltime contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with stateoftheart infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
Duration: Openended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
Starting date: 01/06/2024
