    The Saint Lucia National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as a Community Outreach and Education Support Officer. Greater public attention to and understanding of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Disaster Risk Management efforts of NEMO will support a more proactive approach to disaster management, as opposed to the considerable sums of scarce resources which are expended annually in retroactive responses to a disaster. Currently, there is a need for a more systemic approach to community outreach that supports the flow of communication to avoid or reduce the adverse effects of natural and man-made emergencies.

    The PCRV is expected to work in close collaboration with the Public Information Officer, other NEMO staff, and the public relations officer of each District Disaster Committee to support community outreach and education in various community anchors including schools and community organizations. The PCRV will collaborate with this team to co-train community volunteers who would ensure the systemic flow of information in the future. Training and mentorship of the diverse community stakeholders will be a significant component of the PCRV's support to the project.

    Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in the Eastern Caribbean together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.

    • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, International Relations, International Development, Disaster Management or related field.


    • Experience with community outreach and education.


    • Experience with project management and coordination.


    • Willingness to persevere through challenges (travel, climate, interacting with multiple people and agencies etc.)


    • Willingness to approach the position through the Peace Corps' philosophy on development


    • High tolerance for ambiguity and high level of flexibility.
