    Context And Mission
  • The Language Technologies Unit at BSC has consolidated experience in several NLP areas, such as massive language model building, biomedical text mining, machine translation and unsupervised learning for underresourced languages and domains. It has been entrusted by the Spanish and the Catalan governments with the mission to develop essential opensource resources and technologies for Spanish and Catalan. In addition, the Unit participates in various EUfunded international projects. The LT Unit at BSC is seeking a highly skilled Senior Researcher with a strong background in Machine Translation and Natural Language Processing to take a leadership position and be responsible for crafting competitive grant proposals to secure funding for the team's research.
    Key Duties
  • Lead and contribute to MT and NLP research projects, staying abreast of the latest advancements in the field.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define research goals and objectives.
  • Contribute to the development of a strategic research agenda for the LT Unit.
  • Identify and evaluate funding opportunities, taking into consideration the Unit's research priorities.
  • Develop and write clear, concise, and persuasive grant proposals for funding opportunities in the field of MT and NLP, both at national and international levels.
  • Ensure proposals align with the Unit's strategic research objectives and address the specific requirements of funding agencies.
  • Collaborate with other researchers, both internally and externally, to enhance the impact and visibility of our research.

Requirements:


  • Education
  • Ph.
D. in Machine Translation or Natural Language Processing.

  • Proven track record of leading Spanish and Europeanfunded projects in the area of Machine translation and NLP.
  • Extensive experience in developing and writing successful grant proposals for research funding.
  • Strong publication record in reputable NLP conferences and journals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of NLP techniques, including machine learning and deep learning approaches.
  • Experience working with industry partners on collaborative research projects.
  • Ability to mentor and guide junior researchers.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Catalan, Spanish and English. Fluency in other languages will also be valued
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
  • European projects on Language Technologies with special focus on machine translation
  • Experience dealing with Spanish Public Administration Bodies
  • Participation in Language Technologies projects with Spanish Public Bodies
  • Advanced linguistic knowledge with expertise in rulebased grammars, lexicon building, and annotation (both syntactic and semantic)

  • Basic or medium knowledge/experience with platforms such as UIMA, GATE, SOLR, and programming languages
