Job Description Summary:

This is a global engineering role that includes design, integration, and enhancement of windfarm control systems capabilities as well as coordinating with Renewables product line and services team on project needs.

The broad scope of responsibility provides an opportunity to develop and optimize plant performance, operability and grid compliance for control systems at Wind Farm level.

About us

GE Renewable Energy is one of the world's leading offshore wind energy companies, with a portfolio of offshore wind turbines ranging from 6 MW to 14 MW that offer increased value to customers with proven performance, reliability, efficiency and availability.

We have invested more than $400 million to develop the Haliade-X, an investment that will also drive down offshore wind farms' levelized cost of energy, helping make offshore wind energy more competitive for our customers.

The Haliade-X was the industry's first 14MW offshore wind turbine to operate, and is the only 12+MW offshore wind turbine platform that has been operating for over two years, specifically at its Rotterdam prototype site.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Engineering responsibility to design and develop algorithm to meet current grid codes for the wind farm level control system for the GE Renewables business.
  • Provide clear focused specifications and algorithms from hardware and software point of view for the wind farm controller, based on grid codes and customer requirements.
  • Execute commercial project requirements by fulfilling all the committed requirements, supporting necessary acceptance tests, and delivering agreed documentation.
  • Guide and develop software and control algorithms for grid services including real power control, reactive power control, voltage control, etc.
  • Develop and troubleshoot ToolboxST code for wind farm grid services and be part of Hardware validation.
  • Execute complete design cycle (concepts, analysis, optimization, validation, and coding) for controls of wind farm systems
  • Investigate controls issues, participate in identifying and implementing improvements in control strategies.
  • As a responsible lead of Wind Farm Controls System, drive all the necessary conceptual, detailed design, implementation, and validation of the controls features.
  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
  • Continuously drive the improvements of validation models and platforms to enhance the software delivery quality.
  • As part of the broader control system design, interface with the turbine controls, operability and plant controls and incorporate collective requirements into the controller design.
  • Find and suggest performance optimization opportunities, including faster grid support of the GE wind farm system.
  • Formulate and implement plans to validate technical performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Control/Power Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited College or University
  • Experience in understanding and analysing Grid codes and other standards
  • Experience in Power systems mainly with Load flows and contingency analysis
  • At least 7 years of experience in an engineering position dealing with controls and electrical systems design
  • Proven ability to work in a crossfunctional and global environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)
  • Effective problem identification and solution skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, proven leadership skills and a positive energy
  • Willingness to travel occasionally
  • EU Work Permit

  • Experience with real time controls design or modelling
  • Experience in performing wind farm studies and creating wind turbine models
  • Proficient in Matlab / Simulink for the design and validation of controls systems
  • Experience with GE's MarkVIe or similar PLC's
  • Experience in wind industry with a focus on plant controls systems
  • Experience with communication protocols such as CAN, MODBUS, EGD, DNP3, OPC-UA and IEC61850
  • Experience in Offshore Grid Integration especially in wind farm control
  • Experience with Load flow software's like SimPowerSystems, PSCAD, PowerFactory or etap
