  • Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads largescale investments and HPC provision in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has over 900 staff from 55 countries.

    Context And Mission
  • Within the Earth Sciences department, the Data and Diagnostics Team is developing workflows of data analysis involving subseasonal to seasonal to decadal forecast verification, written in R and orchestrated with the Autosubmit framework, developed in the group.
  • This workflow is managing the whole life cycle of the data, from the download, the processing and the plotting of the results, and needs to be gathering and propagating related metadata to ensure its proper reproducibility and understanding by the users of the final data.
  • The successful applicant will join the BSC Computational Earth Sciences group, within the Earth Sciences Department, to help at the practical implementation of the provenance solution in this workflow, collaborating with the R developers and the autosubmit developers.

Requirements:


  • Education
  • Finishing a degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or a related field
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
  • Basic knowledge of R and Python or related languages
  • Knowledge of workflow manager
  • Knowledge of provenance and Rprov will be valued
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
  • Ability to learn and adapt to multiple programming languages easily.
  • Competences
  • Capacity to interact and build strong relations with both climate and computer scientists
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiatives, prioritize the tasks and work under set deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Fluency in English, both speaking and writing

Conditions

  • The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department
  • We offer a parttime contract (20h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with stateoftheart infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan.
  • Duration: Internship
  • Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
  • Starting date: asap
