The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education.

ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level.

Research is organized in the following main areas, Malaria and other Infectious Diseases, Maternal, Child and reproductive Health, Urban Health and Child and environmental health, Climate & Non-Communicable Diseases.

ISGlobal is accredited with the Severo Ochoa distinction, a seal of excellence of the Spanish Science Ministry.

    What We Are Looking for:
  • ISGlobal is seeking a technical fellow who is interested benchwork activities of the project: Novel organ-on-a-chip technology to study extracellular vesicles-mediated cryptic infections in Plasmodium vivax malaria
  • "Hiddenvivax". The overall project goal is to unveil mechanistic insights of cryptic erythrocytic infections in vivax malaria through the use of organs-on-a-chip.

Field research:


  • Infectious Diseases (Malaria)

Key Responsibilities:


  • Implementation of lab chip microfluidic devices to study human blood passage

Specific Duties:


  • Determine rheological, viscoelastic and physical properties of the passage of human blood through an organonachip mimicking the spleen using different hydrogels
    Auxiliar task:
  • This job description reflects the present requirements of the post but may evolve at any time in the future as duties and responsibilities change and/or develop providing there is appropriate consultation with the post-holder.
  • Training and experience /Qualifications:
  • Physics background
  • Handling microfluidic devices

Specific Requirements:


  • To take daily notes in a laboratory noteblook
    Skills:
  • Teamwork.
  • Problem resolution.
  • Learning capacity.

  • Fluent English is required

Conditions:


  • Duration: six months
  • Starting date: 15 September 2023
  • Contract: part time
  • Salary Range: According to ISGlobal Salary scale
