The ability to sell oneself is fundamental for any professional

The ability to communicate effectively is essential for every professional.

Beehives, bees, honey and buzzing on a social network?

Our idea was to create a reference like Twitter has its bird logo. A bee is a hard-working insect, that produces honey whilst buzzing lively and the beehives work together like groups. It´s resemblance with an employee is excellent. In the beginning we started out as WeBee, but then we changed our name for beBee. Abbreviation is quite common in the United States: FB, TW, IN or LI… beBee is BB or as others refer to it bB. Same in every language… and it doesn´t have a history! Its perfect: diligent, sociable, lively, visible…

5f6296d5.jpg

But why orange?

The orange color and the hexagon are to differentiate ourselves. There are social networks with square and round logos, blue, red, black and yellow…We stand out from the crowd: the bee, the hexagon and the orange, a color that combines seriousness with youthfullness. Neither yellow, nor red.

Has the phrase “come on, get off your computer and get out to send your curriculum” lost its actuality?

It simply doesn´t work like this anymore. Its not enough to simply register on social media and then sit back and wait for something to happen. This is about investing time on a daily basis; there are no short term results. It's not enough to just updload your resume and then don´t do anything else. We give you the tools to advertise your services, complete your profile and get yourself noticed. What should you do with all this? Write about what you know and show your personality!

It's about creating an image, right?

On beBee you can showcase your whole persona. That's why we call it personal brand instead of professional brand. Behind the professional there is a human being. What works is networking, or as we used to call it back in the days, “napotism” but it sounded somewhat derogatory. In real life its networking that works best: connecting with people who can help you to get ahead. For example, I know architects who are struggling to get a job whilst their peers enjoy an abundance of offers. The latters might not be better in any way, other than their ability to communicate.

Nowadays, the ability to sell ourselves and communicate effectively is indispensable for every professional. We were blown away by the fact that in Silicon Valley, all degrees offer drama classes. Now imagine that an economical degree incorporates drama classes! It should work exactly the same here. They already know that professionals from all fields should be able to market themselves effectively. It is considered an essential part of every profession, even plumbing. A plumber there has his own blog, his positioning on Google and therefore, more clients. They don´t question the necessity of all this. Here we are just starting to understand this: you must stand out of the crowd!

How are you managing the growth?

We are still small. We hope to reach 20 million followers in a year and 40 in 2 years time. We are growing organically, especially through Google. All content is properly indexed on Google and that attracts traffic naturally. The other way is through the profiles of our users: once you get active, beBee positions you on the first page that brings attention, especially on social media. It generates a word of mouth phenomenon. By December we hope to attract, and lets see if we get there, around 300.000 new users and 500.000 more by each month.

Where do you hope to get as Spanish entrepreneurs? It is quite a disadvantage...

I believe it is one, yes. Obviously. But we have a strong american commitment as we have an american CEO in the US. That is to say, regardless of how good we might be, we also have to be smart and know that a Spaniard over there doesn´t really... Let them see you as an American company, even if your founders are Spanish. They must see that you are strongly focused on the American market, otherwise you can forget it. The limit? I don´t know... Why not dream of being the first spanish and European social network with 400 or 600 million users? Dreaming has no price tag...

Social networks are born, they grow and then tend to disappear?

If they don´t evolve then yes. If they lack the ability to adapt themselves and innovate they can easily disappear. Twitter has been facing some difficulties and LinkedIn has also been struggling since its acquisition by Microsoft, as the engagement - user commitment towards the network - is very low.

You can read more about this topic on the following links

https://www.google.es/amp/s/venturebeat.com/2016/08/04/linkedin-now-has-450-million-members-but-the-number-of-monthly-visitors-is-still-flat/amp/

https://www.google.es/amp/s/venturebeat.com/2015/10/29/linkedin-now-has-400m-users-but-only-25-of-them-use-it-monthly/amp/

Facebook, however, is a great success story: it innovates, recently acquired Instagram and has started new projects like stories or live videos. The secret lies within innovation ( or improve ) and the ability to adjust to different situations and the absence of these traits can lead any social network to its doom.

The problem of Tuenti - the past spanish social network - for example resulted from the fact that it was born locally and also died locally. There is no point in a non-global network; it has nothing to do in this market.

Isn´t everything invented already?

It seems like it is, but really, it is not. We are very different. First of all its the wall. In beBee everything is personalised and based on your interests, whilst on other platforms the content of your wall is defined by your followers or connections. Here, if you are a part of a hive, the system will show you posts from people with whom you might not be connected to, but share the same interests, objectives. Because let´s be honest: you probably have asked for a new business opportunity from the people you already know, and if they haven´t given it to you already its most likely you won´t get anything out of these relationships. beBee therefore, focuses on 3rd degree connections. Your family and friends make up your 1st degree connections, the friends of your friends add the 2nd layer and last, but not least the people who you don´t know belong to the 3rd degree of your network.

How the idea of beBee was born?

We realised that when you post something on any social media platform you merely reach about 8% -10% of your followers and we wanted to change that. If you put energy into your network, then you should reach 100 % engagement. beBee ensures an organic engagement. In order to network more effectively we thought about what brings people together. Because, in the end, you are going to do more business with the people you sympathise or get on well with or share some common interests.

A Personal Brand on the Internet

Javier Cámara is the CEO of beBee, a social platform that is in the midst of expansion. The users of this constantly growing network find jobs thanks to their personal brand.

To give you an example: "who is going to sell a bike better? Someone who is passionate about cycling or someone who isn´t? You can only find this on beBee, because we succesfully merge professional networks with leisure ones. beBee is focused on becoming a network of personal branding"; added the company´s senior executive.

Excellent interview and great answers. As cynical as the world might be, as closed to the idea of personal brand, till now, reading this will bring them some enlightenment. beBee has helped me immensely, Javier 🐝 beBee...personally and professionally. I am addicted to it and I hope to get others follow suit, too! :-)
Agreed. beBee helped me gain the label Entrepreneur. It's how I think of myself now.

Left out something so I deleted my last comment: Excellent advice. I love facebook more now (more in terms of reach and cross posting- beBee is still my number one network!) because I'm finding buzzes I don't see on here due to my timeline (that's a good thing), beBee is growing a lot! I also make all my beBee posts public and I added a follow button just a day ago. I was getting friend requests from people who use beBee but I don't know of them personally. Thanks for this!

Wisely said! If I'm going to sell a bike successfully, I need to be passionate about cycling but also effectively communicate the sales. In every profession you should know how to sell a "bike." 😊

Thanks for another brilliant buzz, Javier. I'm pinning this to my Twitter home page for any bees who wants to help cross channel pollinate per retweeting at https://twitter.com/DBGrinberg Vamos!!!
i hope i have answered your expectations about clearing the mysteries of the latest improvements seen here on beBee, affinity propagation does good, affinity propagation enhanced with innivative technologies, well, give time to a propagation vector to grow and propel it with a sutainable booster engine....lol. i am still experimenting the phenomenon called acceleration, not about been viewed, but about being ' in business with', phone turned red!
Everyone with a 3500 CAD/ yr budget on a dedicated server histed can accomplsih that and model +/- 200 millions automated actions a Year on a growing interactive audience with high rate of engagement up to 18-20%. As it is open source the server and the codes wil belong to you and not a 3d party.
Followers based used to be the reference and still is on twitter who becomes more and more technologically obsolete like LinkedIn already is, and keep heading down. FaceBook is different and will replace LI in time when its Professional versioning will occur and be branded that way. The dramatic results come from the hidden network, the 3rd degree potential connections. They are your true loyal audience, people that do not know you. IReceive 10k emails per day from direct approach on hotmail, 5k on 4 gmail segemented accounts, i funnel them and send back a automated marketing response through a workflow of actions based on the mecanism IF This Happens Then Do That, depending of the peaks of activities it varies between 115k automation to 19 millions per day. This is highly interactive and it follows scenarii of predictive situations. takes time to set it up but after it taste like caviar!
Account based marketing automated means that the audience is directly reach through newsletters, rss feeds, SMS, consented emails alerts, etc...Now the rate of engagement surpasses twitter that is between 0,8 to 1% which is very decent according to Twitter authorities, while pinterest more visual put the flag between 3 to 6% of your followers base.

Well to be honest, i do not follow by the book, but i would say, that content is king isnrule #1 a do not try to follow the others and the trends, just be specific and follow your instinct. #2 Stucture but do not try to elaborate to much, over 1 to 3 points we loose people attention #3 the most performant be social, put others in the light, not you are your activity. Now dramtic results fron 100-300 up to 2K with the first hours of release is based on a MarketingAutomationServer i use to stream to a wide variety of socialmedia technologies (700) plus the combination of BB sharing features.

Thank you for keeping it real Javier 🐝 beBee. Here is my post as promised: Facing The Elephant in the Room - The Reality of Racism for Entrepreneurs https://www.bebee.com/producer/@anne-thornley-brown/facing-the-elephant-in-the-room-the-reality-of-racism-for-entrepreneurs
BTW, when Subban scored the winning shot in a game against Boston, there was a FLOOD of racist tweets against him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0kAubzW6WQ A sign of hope is that, in response, there were thousands of tweets chastising those who posted the racist tweets.

I am STUNNED to read this comment coming from a person of African descent. "I dont know how one's nationality affects the entrepreneurial journey." I am a Jamaican living in Canada. I am all for working hard and trying to be positive in the face of adversity. Whether we like it or not, some people have their prejudices and this does present certain barriers. In Canada, people usually keep their prejudices well hidden but every now and then they bubble to the surface. This ugly incident happened near Toronto in the past week. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7WZwKf2wFk Ignoring this fact or trying to invalidate it through "positive thinking" is not going to change that. All one has to do is step inside most major corporations in the U.S.A., the UK, or Canada to witness firsthand how few individuals from visible minority groups get promoted to or above manager level. Here is P.K. Subban, a very successful Canadian hockey player. His parents are Jamaican. He has had to endure racial taunts from Twitter fans and people throwing banana peels on the ice if he misses a shot. He is not the only Black hockey player who has experienced this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-eoMGsXAqs Things are improving but we have a long way to go. People need to face reality not ignore it. Then, one can strategize to overcome some of the very real obstacles. Chastising others for speaking the truth is far from helpful. Is that how you approach the people you counsel? Ignore the problem, think positive thoughts and it will go away. I may just have to write a blog post about this.

Selling is a competency that the vast majority of professionals fail at and there is no point in having marketing or even a brand if at an individual level you cannot sell, either your vision or a product or a service. It is not sexy to use the word selling but that is what we need to learn. If you want to call that an "organic brand" then sell that, if you want to call it "brand being" then sell that, but sell something that has not been hustled or sold before, and that is why the word selling is not something people associate themselves with, because they think selling and associate it with "used car salesmen" or they think selling and associate it with the world's oldest profession. Selling is neither a hustle or prostitution unless you sell a used car like the term "personal brand" or it is done for the money or thinking at the level of just creating a persona and thus not having a grander vision that either provides a greater contribution or greater transformation to our world.

Tricia Mitchell Disadventages are not limitations. We are completely sure beBee is going to be bigger than LI, just to put you an example ;-)
Actions, reactions and good consequences: Matt 🐝 Sweetwood was talking about getting a dreamjob, well beeinga brand ambassador is quite very pleasant, lol, but i was surprise to witness a growth in interviews, like 4 per weeks, on a constant basis, plus opportunity rising from diverse horizons. There it was Global Personal Branding on a sustainable basis was happening, and now yiu cannot stop it.
Since i started to read Juan Imaz - joke!!!) The payback was instant. 1st, the audience started to grow to match Linkedin's. Then after a few weeks...i stop writing on LI, it was worthless. Now post gets 2000 views in a day...and you see articles appear on google searches, even not with the exact titles but with the topics and so on. Ohhhh!

Michele Williams the spanish interview has been translated for you! Enjoy it !
Crystal clear explainations of the behind the scene of what we all witnessed here on our favorite social media platform. Javier 🐝 beBee you gave us all the opportunity of the 3rd degree connection and run to every spheres (5) of influence. How come LinkedIn missed that? I had a personal brand prior to beBee related to my pro accomplishement, but the reach was specialized and local, my business partnerships stayed isolated, audiences, propsects saw me only in one scope and perspective.
