Sustainable instruments and accessories, 2nd part

In the first part of this article I talked about the Snap Jack cables, whose ends can be easily replaced since have magnetos, and keep using the cable without soldering. Well, before that I was in front of all this lot of old cables (not Snap Jack) soldering them and thinking... if somebody doesn't know how to solder will throw to the garbage the cable... and by the way... in which recycling can go the cables of any kind? well... better take it to the municipal recycling center but... most times... cables will not end there.

But there are companies who consider sustainability to avoid creating wastes as much as possible. And many times, with imagination we can also do that! For example: instead throwing the used guitar strings... you can do bracelets with them as shown in this video I've found on internet

Regarding strings and wastes... how many professional and amateur guitarists are there in the entire World? and violinists? and bass players? and cello players?... and where do all the strings they use go to? But D’Addario string manufacturer does this String Recycling Program

And Promark (a D’Addario brand) has this other effort: to provide seedlings to plant trees in Tennessee, United States replanting the trees they use to make drum sticks. If you live in United States you can also help! More information

I'm not trying to advertise any company. In fact I also buy strings made by other brands and suggest them for other reasons. But I've visited D'Addario websites and they still have more interesting initiatives that show their compromise with many matters and that's something to be grateful.

On other matters, some time ago somebody told me about Mutant Guitars. They are innovative since have interchangeable bodies, fret-boards and pick ups without soldering! And without discarding the whole guitar or piece and throwing it to the garbage (It's not what I would do but it happens) This system is much more modern and, although wood is the main part of an instrument, it draws my attention how easily you can change the components at home! They are called Mutant Guitars and you can easily change their body, picks, neck... just assembling them.

I've tried to share all this to sensitize our music sector to avoid damaging the environment

Sometimes when I say there are people and companies efforts on this... some people stop worrying about it. I suggest them to take a look to our planet.
