Smiling in a Friday…( a fiction tale )

…Bernie and Joey were friends…since childhood…both were working at the same IT company just in different departments…

One day Joey got a reward after a long time hardworking season. An advanced course of a subject he was longing to learn. The problem was the course was taking place in a far away location…

…And Joey loved his Moluccan Cockatoo. Bird name was Cookoo. Sure was a pretty bird…kind of very talkative critter.

…Bernie in the other hand…never understood why Joey loved that bird so much…but he loved Joey (as a friend ) so he was more than willing to put up with Cookoo.

…So was not a surprise that Joey asked Bernie to take care of Cookoo while he was away at the course.

…After all Cookoo´s diet was simple…sunflower seeds…some fruit…and water…some bread…¡¡¡ piece of cake ¡¡¡… Bernie´s words…even Bernie can take care of that.

Among friends it was a rumor that Bernie was kinda simple. More like a straight forward guy. Plain guy …more like flat kinda guy.

…Bernie agreed….sure man…I can put up with Cookoo for a few days…don’t worry…I ´ll take care of the bird…

...Well Bernie…I appreciate that man….just keep in mind that I will be in the classes all day. If anything happens….just send me a text. At the end of the day I will give you a call to see how are things going….man…you my friend…thanks again….

…So Joey went away…

…A couple of days passed by…and Joey finished that day classes…grab the cell phone and saw a text message waiting to be opened…it was from Bernie… earlier that afternoon.

Message was something like this…

….Yo Joey…Cookoo...I don’t know how man …Cookoo opened the door of the cage and go out.

Then he flew out the house by the window…I went after him….Cookoo climbed a tree ….I took a ladder trying to catch him….Cookoo then jumped from the tree to the road…and man…a truck was passing by and I don’t know …but the truck run over Cookoo and crush him…Joey…am so sorry man …Cookoo is dead…sorry my friend…and very sorry…

…Shiiittttttt ….Joey went crazy….frantic…he started crying and shouting and cursing….finally he called Bernie…even was 11 pm at Bernie local time.

….Yo Bernie….it´s me…Joey…what ´d happened man… what ´d happened …am devastated…

…Joey … Am sorry my friend…I don’t know what to say man…Cookoo……

…Yeah…Bernie…I know...I know man…I know…I ´d readed your message…that’s bad man…bad…am wasted…

..Sorry Joey…what can I say…

…Well it’s not that Bernie…

…Cookoo s dead… is bad man…is bad I know …but…but what pissed me off was the message man….you gotta be more delicate man…more subtle…you just gave me all the bad news …all at once…you have to space up the messages man….

…Yo Joey…I don’t get you…

…I mean…you first send me a text….saying…."Cookoo got away"…OK?

…then a couple of hours later you send me another text…saying…"Cookoo just climbed a tree"…

A few hours later…you text me and say…I went after Cookoo….

Some time later….you text me again and say…Cookoo jumped to the road…

And the end….the result is the same man…but is kinda sedated….I would suffer less….the suffering will be more acceptable…the pain is more gradual...

…Oh..ok…ok…Joey…I gotcha…sorry man…I will do man....Ok....by the way Joey ...when are you coming back…

…Still 3 more days….I ll see you soon Bernie…see ya…

…Joey…sorry about Cookoo…

...Ok man…ok

…Next day…Joey finished his classes and took the cell phone…and it was a text from Bernie…
