Pic of Javier Cámara, long time ago...

MAMEN

Hi Javier! Thank you very much, first of all, for approaching to this virtual space and give us the opportunity to know you better, not only on a professional level that we already know a lot about you, but also on a personal level.

To start, please tell us where the story of Javier Cámara begins.

JAVIER

I was born in Miranda de Ebro, Burgos (Spain), and I am proud of it. My mother is from Miranda as well, and my father is from La Rioja.

My grandparents, on my mother’s side, were from Cubilla de la Sierra and Huerta del Rey, Burgos, and my grandparents on my father’s line were from Tormantos, in La Rioja.

I have direct family, carnal cousins, spread by Miranda, Madrid, Bilbao and Lleida. And another one I do not forget, living in London. :-)

MAMEN

For how long were you living in Miranda?

JAVIER

I spent all my childhood in Miranda. I studied at Sacred Hearts School and I remember those years with much affection. I also keep all my friends from that time, which seems incredible. This shows that even though our ways were separated in the University period, friendship can be maintained in the distance. I send everyone a hug as we can not see each other as much as we would like. :-)

MAMEN

So, did all of you study in different Universities?

JAVIER

All the young people from Miranda end up studying outside, most of them in Bilbao, Vitoria, Logroño, Pamplona, Santander and San Sebastián. The peculiarity in Miranda is that we have 3 provincial capitals, Bilbao, Vitoria and Logroño, at the same distance or less than our capital, Burgos. So let’s say Miranda is "a crossroads". Miranda certainly has an important relation with the Basque Country and the Rioja.

Once the Secondary School was finished, with some curious anecdote because I was the only one along with another friend of mine in failing the University Access, imagine the discontent of my parents, I was locked all that summer to be able to Access in September. It still seems incredible to me how I was so able to fail the Access. Anyway I think that fact helped me later to pass the College Career quite decently.

MAMEN

No doubt we are learning from all the stones that we are encountering along the way, and all of them make us grow. Where did you go to the University then?

JAVIER

Before that, I had the "luck" or astuteness to get rid of Military Service. Together with precisely the other friend who failed the Access with me (Joseba, I send you a hug :-)), we both claimed that we had “pollen allergy”. We had to go to the Military Hospital in Burgos. We had allergies but certainly not so strong to get rid of Military Service. I remember that the nurse punctured our arms for the allergy test on different things.

The nurse had to leave for two minutes, and we extended with our fingers those things we knew that gave us allergy to the punctures of the other types of test. So, the result was that I had allergy to everything... I think even to milk!! :-)

Finally we got the letter telling us we got rid of the Service. Imagine my happiness, I could dedicate my time to study and/or work. That fact certainly gave me an extra bonus.

MAMEN

Hahaha... I can imagine the face of the nurse! For sure she felt pity on you two...

So, what did you do next?

JAVIER

Then I went to Bilbao to study Computer Engineering at the University of Deusto. I lived in Bilbao all my University years and the first years of my professional career. It’s a city that I love, and as I told you before I have family living there.

In Bilbao I also grew as a person, I made very good friends that I still keep, and I learned a lot. Many of these friends are living now in Madrid and we see each others sometimes. In Bilbao I grew up and I became an Athletic fan, hahaha... :-)

MAMEN

Hahaha, great fighters the "Lions" of San Mamés.

JAVIER

Yes! And once I finished my degree, I did a two-years Master's Degree in Software Engineering at the University of Deusto, while doing some practices in ITP (Turbopropeller Industry) at the Zamudio Technology Park in Vizcaya. From there I went to work for technological projects in the Mondragón Group in Arrasate, in Gipuzkoa. And of course, during that time I also made very good friends, which I still keep. :-)

MAMEN

Friendship is a recurrent topic in you, very friendly to your friends.

And how did you end up in Madrid?

JAVIER

Well, when I was living in Arrasate I had the opportunity to move to Madrid for an interview to work at Oracle. Who wouldn't love working for a great American Technology Multinational? So, I came to Madrid.

At first I thought Madrid was "a world" to me... And now for me it seems to be a rather average city, and Bilbao very little, after so many trips around the world. :-)

I'm not from Bilbao but I'm from the suburbs, qué pues! LOL…

(“qué pues” is a very typical expression by people from Bilbao)

MAMEN

There it goes then! Hahaha... And I guess you got the job at Oracle.

JAVIER

That’s it! And after growing very fast professionally at Oracle, and being named "Architect of Success", I said, Javier you need a change. And I started to look for options.

And here comes Infojobs. I had the great luck to meet Juan Imaz, co-founder of beBee and a crackerjack, in this Producer Juan explains our beginnings together.

MAMEN

Javier, what do you most admire about Juan?

JAVIER

Juan was born entrepreneur. A real entrepreneur must have the ability to take risks and that adrenaline that gives us “to jump into the water" with a new project and take risks that we can benefit without consulting exhaustively.

When you go into entrepreneurship, it’s very easy that the mood decreases sometimes, and Juan maintains a positive vision that makes him be different.

Talent is with him, you can breath it, he knows how to identify the right moments when it is well-timed to sell or to buy. It’s not by chance he has had several projects of successes. He has a star and you need to see it. I saw it, hahahaha…, Yes, and it’s also true that he knows how to be surrounded by other crackerjacks, as the beBee CEO, does this sound familiar to you? LOL... ;-)

____________________________________

MAMEN

Yes, I think I know him!! Hahahaha... I can assure there is a very good harmony between Juan and you.

JAVIER

Juan transmits positivism, energy, he is empathic and has enough talent to lounch beBee very far. We complement each other very well, indeed. And after a few years without working together we came back again, and I think Juan + Javier is not equal to 1 + 1 = 2, it’s more like 1 + 1 = 5.

When we have ideas together, we break mathematics. We are not that strong when separated.

MAMEN

And someone like you, who has all of us impressed with your ability to participate so much on the platform despite how busy you are… How do you disconnect from the “noise in the world”? If you ever do… ;)

JAVIER

I have to say I NEVER disconnect 100%. The Internet fascinates me, it makes me happy, I'm connected day and parts of the night, and sometimes the best ideas come to me at 3am, while in bed thinking about new ideas. This little head doesn’t know how to stop... If it stops, it’s unhappy.

Well, let's see... I like to go running, cycling or just having a few beers with Juan, although even so we talk about new ideas, which is what makes both of us happy, hahaha…

MAMEN

And, what is the moving power in your life Javier?

JAVIER

THE MOVING POWER IN MY LIFE IS THE DESIRE TO OVERCOME, I SOMETIMES FEEL MY BLOOD BOILING. It's just this way, I cannot stand still. I do not stop. Self-motivation is the moving power in my life.

In the morning, I get up, I get ready, sometimes I have breakfast, but I cannot leave home without thinking about ideas. And what makes me feel interested in being alive, useful, going to work, fighting for my family? THE MOTIVATION.

Motivation allows me to advance, participate and grow personally and professionally.

MAMEN

A whole philosophy of life that undoubtedly makes us grow, till where we want to get...

JAVIER

Dreaming about improving has no limits. I am a dreamer and now we have the most ambitious project by far that we have tackled... Although I did not want to name it... it’s called beBee. I'm sorry I could not help it. ;-)

beBee is right now MY GREAT PASSION. And I'm going to fight to keep dreaming awake... and also dreaming asleep, hahaha… LOL!

And in the pic below we are in the London subway this year, where we went for an event to promote beBee."

thank you @Renee Iseli - Smits . Now we are able to improve the platform with each passing day, and that is already a great achievement. I have no doubt that we are starting from a very solid base, the result of the experience of past mistakes. We have a very powerful team right now and a user base that has kept us excited about reinventing ourselves. Welcome to everyone in the new beBee. beBee is born.

Ha, Ha, this post is an ‘oldy’ but a ‘goody’, @Javier 🐝 CR. Remind me not to ask you for mathematics advice (1+1=????). 😂

Is Mamen still part of your support team?

This buzz has made me wonder if there is a connection between entrepreneurial spirit and laughter. Whether it is Richard Branson or Jeff Bezos, or even an intense Steve Jobs - there is always smiles and laughter - even in this account http://www.businessinsider.com/gil-amelio-steve-jobs-2011-10 - of course the character and style is different, but laughter seems to an entrepreneurial trait, and as the Jobs article says Jobs recalled. "He was just such a buffoon, and he took himself so seriously. He insisted that everyone call him Dr. Amelio. That's always a warning sign." - Now Jobs was not an example of a positive thinker, he was more of an example of what it takes to change the world and enter the great hall of leadership, or as he said in his classic remark to convince John Sculley, a Pepsi executive to join Apple ""Do you want to sell sugared water for the rest of your life?" - and so tempering his fierce competitive spirit is this underbelly of a great sense of humour.

Kudos Mamen for sharing this excellent interview. Javier beBee, as well as all beBee ambassadors and bees. The phenomenal growth of beBee in under 2-years represents an admirable and impressive team effort by all of the above. It's all about team work!

My mother taught me and my brothers that 1 + 1 = 11 and it is also true here Juan + Javier = 11 - 10 times the power of the individual alone. Enjoyed learning about this back story, very insightful both in terms of the entrepreneurs within and the human spirit as two very good people.
