Offer description:

Our main interest is the connectivity between reprogramming, cellular plasticity and cancer.

Cellular plasticity is an emerging topic of intense investigation due to its important implication at different stages of tumorigenesis (tumor initiation, maintenance and metastasis) and in the resistance of cancer cells to chemotherapeutic agents.

The successfully appointed PhD student will explore these connections using cellular and molecular biology techniques and genetic mouse models, including ́reprogramable mice ́, which allow us to induce cellular plasticity in vivo by the overexpression of Yamanaka reprogramming factors (Abad et. al., Nature 2013).

VHIO provides:

A dynamic, multidisciplinary research environment, optimal laboratory space and access to our cutting-edge core technologies: Molecular Oncology, Cancer Genomics, Translational Genomics, and Proteomics which are not only responsible for the development of VHIO ́s core technologies and platforms but also pursue, implement and develop their own independent research lines and projects.

Located in the stunning city that is Barcelona, our exceptional facilities also comprise a state-of-the-art animal facility with a dedicated surface area of 1347 m2 and a capacity of 5471 cages.

Established in 2006, the Vall d ́Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), Barcelona, Spain, is a leading comprehensive cancer center of excellence where its scientists and research physicians adopt a purely translational research model, working together as multidisciplinary teams to both accelerate and advance personalized and targeted therapies against cancer.

Undertaking one of Spain ́s most dynamic cancer research programs, VHIO is dedicated to delivering on the promise of precision medicine in oncology - turning cancer discovery into more effective, tailored treatments and better practice for the care of our patients.

Marking a new chapter in VHIO ́s evolution and affording us with the valuable space through which to grow, our new home since September last year - the CELLEX Building, now brings all our teams under the same roof which is instrumental in further enhancing collaboration and the connection between our various programs.
