Hola a todos We are excited to announce that Rovio is opening an entity in Barcelona Rovio is growing, and games such as Dream Blast and Angry Birds Friends are looking to recruit more people to work their magic on making and growing the games in Barcelona, working in tandem and as equal with the team at HQ in Finland.

We are looking for a talented and experienced UI Artist to join the Angry Birds Dream Blast game team.

We are looking for a UI Artist to play a key role on the UI & Events side of the game and to play a key role in making Angry Birds Dream Blast an even better experience for your players.

As part of the game team you would be responsible for creating and maintaining the UI style and best practices within the game and working together with the games UX Designer, Art Lead, Artists and Animators to craft the best possible user experience for our players.

The focus of the role is on UI's but we expect you to also have great illustration skills as well.

Together with your team, you have opportunities to grow in the role or within our studio or cross studios. We have studios in Barcelona, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Canada (Montreal and Toronto). Puzzle studio is based in Barcelona and Finland and operates under a hybrid model.

Details of the model depend on the game teams, however one common practice is to have some face time together weekly.


What your days will look like:

  • Create UIs for new game mechanics and polishing existing core game elements
  • Create UIs for new features and events
  • Collaborating with other game development team members such as UX Designers, Designers, Programmers
  • Creating UI assets using, 2D and 3D workflows, emphasis on 2D
  • Creating Illustrations for UIs when necessary
  • Creating UI animations with Unity timeline and Spine
  • Import your assets to the game engine and work with programmers, animators and tech artists on making sure they work as intended.
  • Implementing game assets into Unity and guiding other team members in good Unity working practices

Who we think will do great in this position:

  • Portfolio and past project examples to show that demonstrate a good eye for style, quality and and key individual contributor skills
  • Empathy and ability to understand the point of view of others, especially the players.
  • Good proficiency in Unity for making game arts, e.g. importing assets, optimising and setting up assets, atlases, timeline, particles, shader graph, among other things.
  • Proficiency in bitmap and vector workflows, e.g. Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Strong skills at creating game assets and UI Layouts.
  • Strong understanding of colors, shape language and layouts.
  • Basic understanding of 3D workflows, e.g. Blender, 3DsMax or Maya.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
