Energy Market – Analyst/Consultant – Mexican Electricity Market

We are looking for great people to support our team of energy consultants in Madrid, focusing on the Mexican power market. This role involves working on long-term market modelling, transactions, bespoke client scenarios, renewable and storage analysis, policy analysis among many other client projects.

You will have the opportunity to collaborate regularly with colleagues from other offices, such as Bogota, Bangkok, Beijing, Berlin, Dubai, Dusseldorf, Helsinki, London, Oxford, Milan, New York, Oslo, Paris, Stockholm, Vienna, and Zurich.

This role often involves office-based work but also offers opportunities to travel for client meetings or entire projects where work is carried out on the client site. With over 800 consultants across more than 20 offices on 5 continents, and supported by 19,000 experts at AFRY in design, engineering and digitalisation, we are driven by the idea of helping our clients find solutions to business-critical questions. For individuals looking for international experience, we can also offer secondments to other offices.

Your primary responsibility will be to support AFRY consulting activities for a wide range of clients, including major financial investors, the largest Iberian and international utilities, government, and regulatory bodies, through projects mainly carried out in Spain, Portugal, and Latin America.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

A Master's degree, or higher, in maths, engineering, economics or science related subject
1 to 3 years of proven experience either from university projects or work on topics such as energy fields (e.g. trading, renewable energies, retail markets, networks) or business practices (e.g. transactions, management consulting, engineering)
Good knowledge and a strong interest in electricity markets, with a plus on experience in aspects of the Mexican power market such as energy trading, PPAs, asset valuations, system planning, market modelling, M&A, project financing, plant dynamics, energy economics
Advanced analytical and quantitative skills, including complex numerical analysis, statistics, manipulation of large data, diverse mathematical models, attention to detail, and proficiency in MS Excel, understanding programming logic, and creative problem-solving skills
Excellent team working and leadership skills, including planning work, supporting teams, anticipating challenges, leading by example, and accountability towards clients
Fluency in Spanish and English, with the ability to explain complex information in a clear and logical way in both languages, both in writing and orally
Proactivity and responsibility, including working in a commercial environment against budgets and deadlines, and having a business-oriented mindset
PASSION FOR ENERGY MARKETS AND POLICIES, WITH A HOLISTIC UNDERSTANDING OF ELECTRICITY OR GAS MARKET DYNAMICS, SUSTAINABILITY CHALLENGES, AND ENERGY POLICIES

Additionally, we highly value database skills (e.g. MS SQL Server or other database systems), contacts in your industry, and the ability to think beyond the ordinary and make bold decisions.
