CARTO with its new CARTO 3 platform has built the most advanced location intelligence platform which connects directly to the most used Data Warehouses in the industry such as Google's BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, Snowflake and Databricks; thus, allowing our partners and customers to do location intelligence and geospatial analysis directly where their data lives opening limitless possibilities for their businesses.
What are we looking for
We are looking for an experienced Backend Engineer to join CARTO's product team to build the next generation geospatial platform running on top of the most popular data warehouses: BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift and Databricks.
Rough numbers:
- Tens of millions of map views per month.
- Thousands of customers. Hundreds of thousands of users.
- Thousands of databases.
- Billion API calls per month.
Location
The position is open to remote.
In fact, we are mostly working remotely right now, but we do have offices in Madrid, and Seville in Spain.
So ideally, you would be in a compatible time zone with Central European Time, but we are flexible.You will:
- Build the nextgeneration geoanalytics platform for analysts, developers and data scientists.
- Push Google BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift and Databricks to the limit. You'll also understand the internals of these data warehouses. You'll have regular meetings with the geo team leads of those data warehouses.
- Work side by side with the team lead to help solving technical challenges.
- Communicate periodically with your work team, via Slack and daily meetings.
- Help to define, plan and organize work tasks in 2week iterations with Shortcut.
- Contribute to opensource projects in GitHub (part of our work is opensourced).
- Be ready to work and collaborate with engineers from opensource communities like PostgreSQL, GeoParquet, GDAL, , PyData, and from companies like Uber, Microsoft, Google or Snowflake
You offer:
- Initiative, proactivity, a cando attitude, and eagerness to learn
- Curiosity, energy, and a collaborative mindset (code reviews, pair programming, promote teamwork, succeed together).
- A solid 5+ years experience as a backend developer, with a mature approach to the job (git/GitHub, documentation, testing,...).
- 3+ years working with Node JS and SQL databases.
- Ability to help increase the technical level of the backend team.
- Demonstrable experience in building scalable APIs and authentication.
- You've worked before with Typescript and Docker.
Nice to have:
- Experience working with geospatial technology. Ideally PostGIS, S2, H
- Demonstrable work with Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake or Databricks
- Knowledge of highperformance databases and distributed computing
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform or AWS
