Descripción

The i2CAT Foundation is looking for a
Research Infrastructure Engineer in Quantum Communications to join the Quantum Satellite research line in Space Communications Research Group.

The aim is to provide support in the design, installation, launch and use for research of the experimental infrastructure for 6G in quantum communications and security of i2CAT, called 6G Quantum Cryptography Laboratory (6GQuCryptoLab).

Recently i2CAT has won a project from the call for the UNICO R&D program, specifically from the experimental infrastructures and scientific-technical equipment sub-programme, funded by the "Ministerio de Asuntos Económicos y Transformación Digital".

The project, called 6GQuCryptoLab, aims to fill the need for an experiment infrastructure that allows experimenting with peer-to-peer and networked quantum key distribution (QKD) links, enabled both for free-space transmission such as through optical fiber, and thus make integration compatible with current telecommunications networks.

To cover this need, it is planned to install several QKD equipment, incorporate key consumer cyber security elements as well as several additional communications and optical laboratory equipment to prepare test and research scenarios.

The person selected for this position will join the Space Communications area, Quantum research line, of i2CAT Foundation, which is in charge of leading the installation, deployment and use of this infrastructure.

  • Coordination and management of the project.
  • Design of use cases, requirements analysis and detailed design.
  • Search for equipment and drafting of documents for its acquisition.
  • Coordination and supervision of the installation and commissioning of the 6GQuCryptoLab components.
  • Integration of components, verification, procedures and tools of operation and utilization of equipment for research purposes.
  • Set up experimental scenarios to support the research line of integration of QKD and quantum communications with networks in general and with satellite systems in particular.
  • Provide support to the Quantum Satellite research activities, aiding in the advancement of Quantum Internet technologies to be adapted to space communications.
  • Oversee and maintain the equipment of the lab, ensuring they are operational and up to date.
