  • El Castillo is currently looking to recruit a wellqualified, dynamic, empathetic and dedicated Counsellor supporting the Diploma Programme. This is a maternity cover starting in September 2023.

SEK International School - El Castillo is a co-educational, both day and boarding, school located about 20 kms from Madrid, with a student body of 1170 students.

Although most students are of Spanish origin, 23% come from over 50 different nationalities.

Teachers come from a range of locations:
Spain and other areas of Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas. The school is an IB World School since 1977 offering the PYP, MYP and DP. SEK El Castillo is also accredited by NEASC and is member of and the European Council of International Schools. The school is part of SEK Educational Institution, which has locations across Spain, France, Saudi Arabia, Ireland and Qatar.

Job Objectives:

  • Implement and oversee a secondary school guidance programme that provides students with a safe and nonjudgemental way to voice their concerns or worries.
  • Contribute to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare and personal care of children and young people.
  • Assist school leadership, programme coordinator and teachers with planning and carrying out schoolrelated programmes and events.
  • Participate in admissions processes.
  • Analyse student performance in the school section to provide guidance and identify potential challenges or matters of concern.
  • Help students develop academic plans in accordance with their skills, talents and strengths.
  • To observe confidentiality and to support the school's endeavour to provide excellent teaching and learning for all students.
  • Facilitate intervention and prevention programmes.

Responsibilities:


  • Advises and counsels students regarding academic, educational, and shortterm social and emotional problems.
  • Remains universally accessible and builds rapport with every student for whom they are responsible.
  • Provides individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding academic matters.
  • Teaches guidance classes and provides guidance counselling to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings to convey educational, social, and important school information, and offers workshops/seminars for families.
  • Consults, facilitates, and maintains communication with families, teachers, administrators and pertinent agents to ensure a holistic approach supporting of our students.
  • Provides feedback and recommends appropriate action and solutions to individual student's academic and educational needs and abilities.
  • Communicates, coordinates, and collaborates with behavioural health specialists on developing and implementing student supports.
  • Prepares and delivers content for Open Days, School Fairs and other School promotion events or materials.
  • Supports and attends appropriate student activities and events across the school sections as part of the Counselling Department action plans.
  • Collaborates to continuously improve Tutor Action Plan calendar.
  • Consistently communicates openly with all stakeholders, based on understanding and respect.
  • Assists students and families in understanding school policies and procedures.
  • Learns students ́ academic profiles and career objectives and any other pertinent details to ensure they are comprehensively informed on their prospects in higher education, vocational training and the world of work.
