ICFO is offering a postdoctoral position to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic young scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment.

During the last years, strontium is emerging as an atom of choice for quantum simulation.

Due to the presence of two valence electrons, it has a rich electronic structure with two sets of optical transitions.

This enables efficient cooling using a narrow-linewidth transition and simplifies fluorescence imaging using a short-wavelength and broad-linewidth transition.

Moreover, the existence of a fermionic isotope with a nuclear spin of 9/2, of magical wavelengths, and of an optical clock transition, provide novel assets to expand the toolbox of quantum simulation to more complex models.

In the group, we have two experiments working with cold strontium atoms.

The first one exploits ground state strontium atoms in an optical lattice, and aims at investigating large spin Fermi-Hubbard models with single-atom and single-site resolution by imaging them in a quantum gas microscope.

The second one focuses instead on Rydberg atom arrays generated by optical tweezers, and its goal is to engineering tunable Ising models in decorated arrays to simulate two-dimensional lattice gauge theories.

This contract is funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU (MICINN-PRTR-C17.I1) and by Generalitat de Catalunya.

Salaries for ICFO Postdoctoral positions are assigned by the Selection Committee, based on experience and seniority of the applicant, as well as the assigned tasks and responsibilities within the group.

Standard salaries range from a lower level aligned with national Ramon-y-Cajal fellowships to higher levels aligned with Marie Skłodowska-Curie individual fellowships.

The contract is offered for a period of 1 year.

Additionally, a family allowance is also available on request and after corresponding approval for people with family charges in the terms described in the corresponding policy.
