We build close relationships with clinical and research communities to ensure we offer a personalised service to authors while publishing exciting, interesting, and thought-provoking content.

About the Role


As an in-house Deputy Editor, you will assist the Editor-in-Chief in all aspects of the organisation and preparation of the journal.

You will take ownership of submissions and peer review to ensure we publish high-quality content and train new Editors in the team.

You will work closely with other journal editors in the Lancet family as well as our production, marketing, communications, and administration.

You will build international relationships with experts in the community to disseminate and discuss practice-changing results from the field.

Responsibilities:


  • Assisting the EditorinChief with decisions on which new submissions should be considered for publication and help the Editor develop editorial strategy, including development of special projects such as Series and Commissions;
  • Assisting with timely production of 12 journal issues;
  • Providing training and mentorship to new Editors on the team, focusing on manuscript evaluation, peerreview processes, editorial writing, and commissioning;
  • Soliciting and commissioning content as necessary;
  • Editorial writing;
  • Organising peer review of research articles and reviews;
  • Developing and maintaining links with the medical research communities to solicit highquality research, especially clinical trials, for the journal;
  • Attending conferences and other events to represent the journal, to identify suitable topics and authors, and to keep uptodate with current developments in medical research.

Requirements:


  • Have a medical degree in a relevant discipline or a higher degree (PhD) in a relevant discipline (eg, biomedical science, public health, global health);
  • Have editorial experience at a senior level, with a good understanding of editorial process and journal production;
  • Be able to demonstrate thorough knowledge of clinical and global public health pertaining to WHO Europe region;
  • Be able to engage and build relationships with external stakeholders, including medical and research professionals, a range of internal teams, and members of the media;
  • Have excellent organisational skills and the ability to work efficiently to demanding deadlines;
  • Be proficient with IT systems including MS Office;
  • Have a genuine commitment to equity in health and health care;
  • Enjoy collaborating with teams to deliver successful projects and initiatives on time.
Work life

The role is open to all European locations where Elsevier has an office.

For this particular role, we do not expect daily attendance in the office but believe that regular in-person team meetings can be beneficial for us all.

You will have a clearly defined schedule of work, and the way you use your weekly hours to complete it will be up to you.
