- Purpose of the role
The Business Development Manager uses market research and analysis to identify trends in the industry and determine potential opportunities for growth.
He/she will play a crucial role in identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, forging strategic partnerships, and maximizing revenue generation.
The BD Manager evaluates the feasibility of new products and services and assesses their potential profitability. They develop financial models and forecasts to support decision-making and investment recommendations.This involves analyzing data, such as pricing, costs, and revenue, to determine whether a product or service is financially viable.
The BD Manager also assesses the competitive landscape and identifies potential threats and opportunities. They develop business plans and proposals for potential new ventures and partnerships.This involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that business opportunities are aligned with the company's overall strategy and objectives.
In addition to assessing new business opportunities, the BD Manager is responsible for prioritizing them based on strategic fit, financial returns, and market potential.
They also ensure that the company's overall strategy and objectives are being met by evaluating the success of past business ventures.
The successful BD Manager has a strong understanding of business development and financial analysis.They have excellent communication and presentation skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with other teams to achieve company goals.
They are skilled problem- solvers and critical thinkers who can present complex financial data in a clear and concise manner
Roles and responsabilities
The key responsibilities of the Business Development Manager include:
- Business Strategy: Developing and implementing a comprehensive business development strategy aligned with the company's goals and objectives. This involves analyzing market trends, identifying potential areas for growth, and creating plans to capitalize on emerging opportunities.
- Identifying and
Evaluating Opportunities:
Conducting market research and analysis to identify potential business opportunities such as new portfolio, mergers and acquisitions, licensing agreements, collaborations, and partnerships.
Evaluating the feasibility, risks, and potential returns of these opportunities.- Negotiation and Dealmaking: Leading negotiations and dealmaking processes with potential partners, clients, or investors. This includes drafting and reviewing contracts, conducting due diligence, and ensuring that agreements are mutually beneficial and aligned with the company's interests.
- Relationship Building: Establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including pharmaceutical companies, healthcare providers, research organizations, regulatory bodies, and other industry players. Cultivating a strong network and representing the company at industry conferences, events, and meetings.
- Financial Analysis: Conducting financial analysis and forecasting to assess the financial viability of potential business opportunities. This includes evaluating revenue projections, cost analysis, and return on investment calculations.
- Functional Leadership: Collaborating with crossfunctional teams such as marketing, sales, finance, Scientifics and regulatory affairs to ensure alignment and successful execution of business development initiatives.
- Regulatory Compliance: Staying updated on relevant regulatory guidelines and requirements to ensure compliance in all business development activities. Working closely with legal and regulatory teams to address any compliance issues.
- Reporting and Analysis: Providing regular reports and analysis on business development activities, including progress towards goals, market trends, and competitive analysis. Presenting findings to senior management and making recommendations for strategic decisionmaking.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in business development, finance, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively with crossfunctional teams.
- Strong negotiation skills, problemsolving and critical/ strategic thinking skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
