The Europe and Global Segments ("EGS") Legal and Compliance team is primarily focussed on supporting the European business and is a collaborative and high performing function which enjoys and values the support of the business.

A vacancy has arisen within the team for a junior lawyer to support Cigna's EGS business and the wider International Markets legal and compliance team.


You will work closely with your colleagues in Legal and Compliance supporting EGS business with good legal and regulatory advice supporting the operational, strategic and financial aims of EGS.

The job content will be excitingly broad in line with the scope of EGS and in addition to your core skillset may include regulatory advice, data privacy support, contract work, litigation, insurance, advisory work, commercial law and corporate law.


ROLE SUMMARY


The successful applicant will be a dynamic, flexible, commercially-aware junior lawyer (1-2 years' PQE), ideally but not necessarily with previous exposure to the insurance or healthcare sectors.

Knowledge of data protection and privacy is desirable. A good level of fluency in the English language is essential.


The role is a varied one Reporting into an experienced attorney within the team, duties will include assistance with drafting of contracts and other legal documentation, supporting the Sales Team in relation to new business acquisition, assisting the business with strategic projects and new product proposals and provision of general commercial, regulatory and policy-related legal advice.

The role holder will also work closely with other Legal and allied teams (e.g. Compliance, Privacy, Risk) to support the business to achieve its aims and manage risks effectively.

The role will also involve monitoring legislative and regulatory developments impacting Cigna's businesses and working with colleagues in Europe and worldwide to implement legal and regulatory changes.

The role will be home-based, with occasional travel to Cigna offices in Glasgow, Antwerp or Madrid.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Legal support and advice to EGS businesses;
  • Drafting of contracts including policies, distribution agreements, outsourcing and supplier agreements, NDAs, ToBAs, appointed representative agreements.
  • Supporting Sales in relation to new business acquisition (quote referrals, RFPs);
  • Advice to the business on regulatory issues, including FSMA, DPA, competition law and financial crime issues.
  • Working closely with Cigna legal colleagues in different geographies on common issues;
  • Surveillance of legal developments affecting the business, and providing advice and assistance to the business in adapting to legal change.
  • Proactively improving process and ways of working within the Cigna EGS Legal and Compliance team

QUALIFICATIONS


Qualified lawyer in either UK or Spain with 1-2 years' PQE, with a good training in either private practice or in-house.

Previous exposure to insurance, especially health insurance, preferred but not essential. If not insurance, exposure to another regulated environment would be an advantage.


If not a native English speaker, the role holder will need a good level of fluency in written and spoken English.
