ALBA is the Spanish synchrotron light source, a large research infrastructure operating ten beamlines, complementary facilities, and an Electron Microscopy Center, this last in partnership with other institutions. Currently constructing multiple more beamlines, expanding the Electron Microscopy Center, and integrating advanced data analytics, it sums up a wide range of infrastructures geared toward finding solutions to societal challenges.

Located in Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain), it is funded by the Spanish Government (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación) and the Catalan Government (Generalitat de Catalunya, Departament de Recerca i Universitats).

The synchrotron light produced by 3 GeV electrons is used by thousands of researchers to analyse and understand the properties and functionality of matter, spanning a wide variety of fields, such as catalytic research, health, energy production/storage, environmental research, communication technologies, or cultural heritage.

Tasks
We are offering a Postdoctoral position at the NAPP end station of the CIRCE beamline to safely collaborate, run, maintain, and develop the CIRCE-NAPP branch (including beam transport if applicable), dedicated to Ambient Pressure Xray Photoemission Spectroscopy (APXPS), as well as to conduct research activities in collaboration with ALBA colleagues and/or users.

This position will be of interest for enthusiastic scientists holding a PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, or scientific technology.

Functions:

Developing and leading your own scientific program using Ambient Pressure Xray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, applied to ALBA's focus research fields as energy

materials or catalysis.

Supporting the CIRCE-NAPP user program, including Local Contact duties, engaging with the potential and actual user community and interacting with all group

members whenever appropriate; this also includes commissioning of new instrumentation and maintaining and baselining of existing ones.

Collaborating in the beamline maintenance and contributing to the NAPP upgrade within the ALBA II context.
Engaging in the section ́s transversal research program (nowadays on energy storage and/or catalysis) at internal, national and European level by initiating, pioneering or contributing to projects and collaborations.

Hold a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or similar disciplines

Have work experience of at least 3 years (including PhD work) in performing and analyzing APXPS or Xray Photoemission Spectroscopy experiments, documented by published results in peer reviewed journals.
Selection Process Development
The selection will be carried out through the competitionopposition system.

As a first phase, an analysis of the curriculum will be carried out (assessment of previous experience and/or scientific history, degree, training, and other professional information relevant to the position).

The assessment of the CV in the competition phase will be scored up to 40 points, according to the following criteria:

Hands on experience performing XPS, APXPS and NEXAFS experiments, including sample preparation, designing and using sample environments, and data analysis; this also includes the maintenance of the corresponding equipment (20 points).
Experience in conducting a research program in the field of energy related materials or catalysis (10 points)
Experience performing experiments at large scale facilities (5 points)
Programming skills, academic achievements, and other merits (5 points)
Experience maintaining, upgrading, developing, or commissioning UHV and other instrumentation in correlation with the XPS, APXPS and NEXAFS (20 points).
Research record in catalysis or energy materials (10 points)
Interpretating experimental results and disseminating the conclusion in oral and written form (10 points).
Experience supporting facility users, teaching or supervising students (10 points)
