JOB SUMMARY


English teachers will be required to plan and deliver engaging English lessons to students of different ages (7-16), nationalities and abilities.

Lessons should be challenging, motivational and fun, based around developing students' communicative skills as well as giving an insight into British culture.

Teachers need to be organised, outgoing and genuinely enjoy working with young people. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain professional experience working with young people in a truly international environment.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Academic

  • To deliver a comprehensive English programme for mixedability students aged 716 years old.
  • To plan, prepare and deliver high quality English lessons and related administration activities.
  • To work as part of the summer school team competently, confidently and professionally, monitoring the students' performance and providing feedback, praise and guidance in order to ensure that the Summer Camp experience is of the highest quality.
  • To be committed to ensure that a positive learning environment is cultivated, in which every single student can learn and feel empowered to make progress in English.
Leadership and Management

To work with the Summer Camp Coordinator/ Director of Studies to ensure the following elements of the Summer Camp are run to the highest standards:

  • Pupil Welfare
  • Student registration and attendance
  • Health and Safety, including working with the nurse
  • Communication
  • Safeguarding
  • Student Management alongside the Summer Camp Coordinator/ Director of Studies

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lesson planning: to plan structured, wellpaced and enjoyable English lessons that challenge students to make progress in their English language skills. Lessons should be planned to increase students' vocabulary and grammar base, building their confidence and fluency when speaking English, as well as giving them an insight into British culture.
  • Teaching: to teach in an enthusiastic, motivational and fun way to create a positive learning environment where students want to participate actively in lessons and can make real progress. Teaching should always be in the target language and be based around building communicative skills.
  • Monitoring, feedback & testing: to make sure students are studying at the correct level and to undertake weekly progress checks to ensure students' English is improving, to provide evidence of the student's progress and to maximize every student's potential to learn by providing timely feedback.
  • Academic admin: to undertake all required paperwork related to the academic programme such as lesson plans, reports and registers.
  • Promoting good conduct: to monitor and manage students' conduct and behaviour in order to promote a happy and healthy school community. Concerns should be reported to line managers in a timely manner.
  • Pastoral care: to constantly be mindful of students' attitude, performance and demeanor to ensure their physical and emotional wellbeing. Concerns should be reported to line managers immediately.
  • Risk assessments: to read and understand the risk assessments relevant to teaching and ensure that Health and Safety policies are actively applied and adhered to at all times.
  • Activities: to lead and and assist with activities as required. Teachers may be asked to lead sports, arts, drama or similar activities according to their personal areas of strength
  • Excursions: to accompany groups of students on selected trips or excursions, following the schedule and procedures at all times to ensure students' enjoyment and wellbeing.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential:

  • Native/ nearnative (C2) competence in English (written and spoken).
  • Flexible, positive and "cando" attitude to work
  • To communicate clearly and resolve any issues quickly and professionally.
  • Excellent classroom management skills and able to follow the school's disciplinary code.
  • CELTA/ Trinity Cert. TESOL (or UK accreditation recognized equivalent) or PGCE (in English or MFL).
  • Applicants with DELTA or QTS (primary or secondary) are particularly welcomed.
  • At least 1 year's teaching experience with Young Learners is essential.

Desirable:

  • Previous summer camp/ summer school experience.
  • Experience in teaching mixed nationality and ability groups.
  • Experience teaching Cambridge exams (B1 PET for Schools and B2 First for Schools)
