Brief Description:


The Neuroscience Medical Lead is responsible for leading the Spain & Portugal Neuroscience Medical Affairs team, strategy, and execution. The role is key to supporting the development and execution of the Country (Spain & Portugal) Medical Affairs strategy and programs that support the development, commercialization, and life cycle management for our existing Epilepsy medicines (90% of dedication), and for any other in development or future medicines in the Neuroscience Therapeutic Area (TA).


Epilepsy Medicines are major strategic drivers for the business with significant opportunities in the portfolio, making this role critical to the future success of the organization.

As a key member of the Country Leadership Team the role will demand high levels of proactivity and cross functional collaboration.


The incumbent has responsibility for ensuring all activities are executed in accordance with regulatory and legal frameworks of the country including but not limited to, Farmaindustria, EFPIA, GCP and IFPMA regulations as well as Jazz Pharmaceuticals Policies and Healthcare compliance procedures.


Essential Functions

  • Country/Regional Medical Affairs
  • Lead the Neuroscience Medical Affairs Team and Provide scientific education and inhouse training for them as well as leadership, team management and role model and exemplify Jazz Cultural values.
  • Work closely with the Country Medical Director to support the development and execution of the in country medical strategy, programs and launch readiness plans, ensuring successful development and execution of the Neuroscience Local Medical Plans.
  • Be an active member of the Spain & Portugal Neuroscience leadership team and contribute fully to cross functional discussions and initiatives to build on the Neurosicience local strategy providing support and advice to medical and marketing groups in developing strategy and tactical implementation plans and ensure best practice is shared across BUs.
  • As requested by the Country Medical Director, he/she will be the Med Dept representative in those relevant groups, both local and European/Global, for activities related to the Neuroscience area under his/her responsibility. As appropriate, these may involve participation in the tasks of the Company, Medicalmarketing teams, Global teams, European networks, or other related working groups concerning products under his/her responsibility acting as the scientific liaison between international and local and facilitate knowledge transfer to country medical teams and crossfunctional areas.
  • He/she may also be the medical representative for the products or disease areas under his/her responsibility in the interaction with Regulatory and Market Access regional and local teams, that may require scientific advice on the area involved.
  • Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge of the Jazz's NeuroScience TA / products and related scientific literature to position him/herself as an expert in the field.
  • Data Generation and Publication Planning
  • Lead the development and execution of local evidence generation to provide data to support the Neuroscience portfolio strategy according to the local unmet needs and requirements.
  • Support development of publication plans covering country/regional data generation needs.
  • Facilitate and support investigators, who wish to conduct investigator sponsored or Jazz sponsored studies in line with Jazz strategy
  • Support the approval and implementation of these projects in line with relevant pharmaceutical regulations and Jazz SOPs as appropriate.
  • External Relationships
  • Support development of Jazz positioning as the scientific authority within the Neuroscience TA.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with appropriate stakeholders (KOL's, pharmacists, local authorities, collaborative groups and scientific societies etc) to ensure that the Neuroscience portfolio is appropriately positioned in treatment guidelines and protocols through the provision of balanced, scientific information
  • Support development of country/regional advocacy through provision of scientific and clinical information and expert engagement plans

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Pharmaceutical industry experience in a comparable role: ideally with Deep Knowledge of the Neuroscience TA focus Epilepsy, Movement Disorders and Sleep TAs
  • Experience building high performing Medical Affairs teams
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills, to design and implement complex strategies and projects with high added value for Jazz and healthcare professionals
  • Experience launching new products, market shaping and launch readiness activities
  • Ability to critically analyse complex data
  • Strong interpersonal leadership, relationship building skills/collaboration and teamwork
  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrable ability to influence at all levels of the organization as well as with external
