Descripción

Childhood cancers are believed to be rooted in aberrant development and are frequently driven by epigenomic rewiring, with only few hard-wired genomic alterations.

In the Pediatric Cancer Epigenetics Lab we aim to unravel how development goes wrong at the molecular level, with the ultimate goal of identifying novel and targeted therapies for childhood cancers.

The PhD position on offer is funded by the prestigious ERC Starting Grant awarded to Dr. Avgustinova for the study of the factors that determine which cells are able to undergo malignant transformation during development.

The project is multidisciplinary and will involve the use of cell and molecular biology techniques, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, cytometry, microscopy, (epi)genomics and animal models.

The position is fully funded for 3 years, with the possibility to extend to 4 years.

Application deadline: 22nd January 2023

Estimated starting date:
April 2023 (flexible)

Responsibilities:

  • Planning, implementation and performing research experiments
  • Analysis, interpretation and presentation of research findings
  • Contribution to research reports and publications
  • Scientific literature review and development of new ideas

We offer:

The Pediatric Cancer Epigenomics lab is hosted at the Fundación Sant Joan de Déu (soon in the Pediatric Cancer Centre Barcelona).

We offer an interesting and versatile work place, a pleasant working atmosphere and access to institutional facilities (Histopathology Unit, Cytometry Unit, Cellular Imaging Unit, Animal Unit, etc.).

The PhD student will be enrolled at the Universitat de Barcelona (UB).

We work in close collaboration with clinicians at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in order to close the gap between basic and translational cancer research.

"This project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC-Starting Grant) under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (grant agreement No "
