We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Experienced Systems Engineer to join our team in Spain Madrid and contribute to the development of services for Urban Air Mobility (UAM).

    As the world moves towards a more connected and efficient transportation system, UAM has emerged as a key solution. UAM aims to integrate future aircraft into the airspace, enabling safe and efficient transportation in urban, suburban, and rural environments. This paradigm shift requires the development of advanced technologies and innovative solutions to address the challenges of air space integration, digital flight rules, and air-ground synchronization.

    The role of the Systems Engineer will be crucial in driving the development of these services. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and testing systems that enable safe and efficient operations of autonomous aircraft in urban environments. This will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, data scientists, and aviation experts, to develop cutting-edge solutions that meet the unique requirements of UAM.

    The development of UAM services presents a myriad of challenges that require a deep understanding of complex systems and a strong problem-solving mindset. From ensuring the seamless integration of autonomous aircraft into existing air traffic management systems to developing digital flight rules that prioritize safety and efficiency, the Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of transportation.

    To tackle these challenges, we are seeking individuals who are not only technically proficient but also possess a passion for innovation and a desire to push the boundaries of what is possible. The successful candidate will have a strong background in systems engineering, with experience in developing complex systems and a deep understanding of aviation and air traffic management.

    Position Responsibilities:

  • Stay updated with the regulatory landscape and ensure that the ground-based services comply with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Document the design decisions, development process, and test results, and provide regular reports on the progress of the ground-based services prototyping.
  • Identify and address technical issues and challenges that arise during the prototyping process, working closely with the engineering team to find solutions.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve the ground-based services by incorporating feedback, lessons learned, and emerging technologies or best practices.
  • Specify and execute experiments to validate functions and produce related artifacts.
  • Generate use cases and customer-specific requirements to be used for validating UAM services.
  • Understand UAM scenarios and translate use cases into services requirements.
  • Contribute to the development of short-term and long-term Concept of Operations for a provider of services for UAM operations.
  • Support the prototyping of a Ground Based Detect & Avoid (DAA) solution for UAM.
  • Support the prototyping of a Ground Based Traffic Surveillance solution for UAM.
  • Defining logical architecture, functional interfaces, and validating performance requirements.
  • Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Master or equivalent or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience.
  • English intermediate.
  • Existing rights to work in European Union.
  • Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and address technical challenges in autonomy engineering, with a focus on DAA, Demand & Capacity Balancing or/and Traffic Surveillance.
  • Familiarity with the urban air mobility industry, including regulations, standards, and emerging technologies.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, systems engineers, and stakeholders.
  • Previous experience in the field of autonomy engineering, preferably in the context of urban air mobility (UAM) or related industries.
  • Understanding of autonomous systems, including perception, planning, control, and decision-making algorithms.
  • Familiarity with simulation environments and tools used for testing and validating autonomous systems.
  • Ability to rapidly prototype and iterate on autonomous system components, using hardware and software tools.
  • Additional information:

  • We are offering hybrid model of working where is expected to work from office 2 days per week.
  • Employer will not sponsor applicants for employment visa status.

    Work Authorization :

    This requisition is for a locally hired position in Spain. Candidates must have current legal authorization to live and work in the respective country. Benefits and pay are determined at the local level and are not part of Boeing U.S. based payroll.

    Typical Educ/Exper

    Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
