Purpose of the job:

Support Service Obsolescence Management and Components design activities in Services Projects.


Key Accountabilities

Accountable for obsolescence management:


  • Facilitate and support the development of obsolescence management plans with Product Platforms, Projects and Fleet Centres of Excellence
  • Review and validate obsolescence management plans for specific projects
  • Determine obsolescence monitoring strategies for products and projects
  • Review incoming obsolescence alerts from external sources, load in TOMSYS and identify necessary actions
  • Prepare periodic project obsolescence reports including Performance Indicators
  • Request & validate product structures and Bills of Material for obsolescence monitoring from Product Units (Design Authority), Suppliers and other sources such as Illustrated Parts Catalogue, and load in TOMSYS
  • Facilitate development of obsolescence solutions, performing components design, engineering, reverse engineering activities following the vcycle, mainly addressed (but not limited to) traction, train control and signalling components whenever required by Service Projects due to obsolescence issues or new functional requests by the projects.
  • With Sourcing and Supply Chain, develop obsolescence management capability in Suppliers through use of Supplier Charter Audits and Obsolescence Management Plans
  • Facilitate supplier obsolescence review meetings
  • Followup project obsolescence issues to define obsolescence plans to provide standard solutions provided by Alstom central o product lines.

  • Cost avoidance and cost saving in projects
  • Management of information requests time for response
  • Quality of support given to project and product teams
  • Customer satisfaction

Desired Knowledge / Experience

  • Knowledge of rail vehicles & subsystems
  • Knowledge in traction systems, train control.
  • Information Systems including ERP and Product Data Management
  • Experience of electronic system design and industrialisation, preferably in rail or similar
  • 3 years experience in technical role in rail or similar industry in obsolescence management

Competencies & Skills

  • Additional language English, German and Portuguese
  • Design & industrialisation of electronic equipment.
  • 2d and 2d design tools
  • IT: MS-Office (Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Word) essential; MS Access and Visio + SAP desirable
  • Collaboration & Teamwork working with local team and with a remote network
  • Continuous improvement ability to innovate continuously and effectively
  • Organisation and planning good time management and delivery
  • Communication skills international and with internal and external correspondents

Educational Requirements

  • Engineering degree, or equivalent qualification
