Pharma Services is a multi billion operating unit providing comprehensive services from development to commercial for small and large molecules in drug product and drug substance.

Our team prides themselves on solving our customers small molecule API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) challenges.

Our objective is to be a reliable partner for supply of high-quality API via a flawless, scalable process that will rapidly achieve goals of clients at each stage of development, process validation and commercial supply to ensure our customers' future success.


How you will make an impact?


This senior position is responsible for the Business Management aspects of our client relationships for our growing API Contract Manufacturing business.

You will work directly with our clients and internal teams to ensure Thermo Fisher's client services are delivered and adherence to contracts is maintained.

A part of this role is to identify opportunities for growth and additional services that could benefit existing customers and to collaborate with the quotations team to prepare the appropriate proposals.

You will also be involved in supporting the assessment of new business opportunities and the supporting work required to respond to client enquiries and RFPs.

The Senior Business Manager API will report to a Director Business Manager API.


You will be the center of our client communications, overseeing multiple projects to be driven by our small molecule API sites around the globe.

Ideally you will have a programme or portfolio management type background gained working in GMP environment, with a solid understanding of the pharmaceutical manufacturing process, along with prior client facing experience.

Knowledge of financial aspects related to revenues, AOPs and P&L is expected in this role. Contract pharmaceutical manufacturing experience and knowledge of small molecule API manufacturing processes are certainly desirable.


What you will do:


  • Together with your Business Development colleagues, direct and handle commercial opportunities for our API sites in the US and Europe by understanding the technical and commercial requirements of our clients and finding appropriate solutions to issues.
  • Collaborate with Business Development in leading new business opportunities in respect with Thermo Fisher's commercial strategy by defining prices and generating impactful proposals, taking into account each of our sites' cost, resources and technical expertise.
  • Negotiate short and long term commercial contracts positioning our business for long term growth.
  • Ensure that projects for our global sites are managed effectively and efficiently and that project teams are meeting the required deadlines and milestones.
  • Coordinate the budgeting process and forecast potential revenues based on the scheduling of assigned projects.
  • Direct and handle the resolution of critical issues related to cost, quality and delivery of product to completion, whilst protecting Thermo Fisher's interests and image.
  • Develop and manage relationships with new and existing clients.
  • Comply with GMP requirements and company rules, policies and procedures.

Who we are looking for:


  • Ideally an advanced degree educated in chemistry, pharmacy or chemical engineering with business education.
  • Significant pharma industry experience in a business management or key account management type of role with a strong background in small API manufacturing.
  • Experience in client management, sales or marketing, and in developing longterm business relationships.
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurship mindset, accountability, agility, overcoming obstacles and focus on action and implementation.
  • Ability to coordinate Cross-Functional Teams.
  • Solid understanding of the pharmaceutical manufacturing process and GMP regulations.
  • Experience in Project/Programme Management or Portfolio Management is desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills in English.
