Wood is currently recruiting for an Intern for Technical Safety department in our Madrid office.


Wood is looking for students interested in accessing the professional world through external academic internships and offers the possibility to put into practice and expand the knowledge acquired during their academic career.


Students will get the opportunity to work in the upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas industry as we look to develop your background in conceptual engineering studies, pre-FEED, FEED, EPC and PMC projects.

The role is offered to fit in with study timetables and course obligations.

  • To carry out engineering activities as directed by the Lead Technical Safety engineer
  • Carry out Loss Prevention deliverables such as Hazardous Fluid List, Active & Passive Fire Protection Philosophy, Fire & Gas Detection Philosophy, Safety Layouts, Cause and Effect Matrix, Hazardous Area Classification Philosophy, Escape Routes and Safety Signs, etc.
  • Design of Fire Fighting systems: fire water demand, Fire Fighting P&IDs, fire water pumps, tanks, etc.
  • Participate in technical safety reviews such as HAZID, HAZOP, Bow-Tie, SIL, LOPA, Plot Plan review, 3D Model review.
  • Review technical safety studies like QRA, Dispersion and Flare Radiation studies.
  • To produce and review specifications, data sheets, schedules, study reports, and design calculations; ensuring that they conform to engineering quality, competence, and project management systems
  • Comply with the requirements and also its continuous improvement in all our Company activities, to guarantee a position of global performance improvement.
  • Last academic year or master's degree in Chemical Engineering or similar.
  • Spanish language at native level
  • Excellent command of English
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Software: PHA Works, PHAST, PIPENET, BlueBeam.
  • Academic situation that allows signing an agreement with a university or training center
  • Availability in the morning (daily dedication depending on the academic situation)
  • Able to manage own time and ability to prioritise at busy times
  • Creative and practical
  • Adaptable and persevering
  • Interested in pursuing a career within engineering
  • Work well with other people
  • Good communication skills within a team and externally
  • Available immediately
