Job Description Summary:

GE Renewable Energy is one of the world's leading offshore wind energy companies, with a portfolio of offshore wind turbines ranging from 6 MW to 14 MW that offer increased value to customers with proven performance, reliability, efficiency and availability.


The Fleet & Projects Mechanical engineer will provide technical leadership on mechanical components to improve installed wind turbine fleet and support projects execution in the customer support engineering organization.


You will be responsible for mechanical components including mechanical drives (bearings, yaw system and pitch system, includes yaw & pitch brakes, pads, hydraulics systems,) and secondary mechanical components (such as ladders, platforms, anchor points, ) and act on all phases of product development, from requirements to development and validation to ensure customer requirements are exceeded, within safety, quality, time, and cost.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ownership for mechanical wind turbine components (bearings, locking system, hydraulics systems), which includes definition of requirements and characteristics, technical clarification, interface definition, prototyping, testing, homologation and introduction into manufacturing up to issue resolution in the installed fleet.
  • Provide innovative design solutions to meet requested functionality, timing, cost and reliability targets, following GE engineering policies and design guidelines.
  • Perform technical root cause analysis of eventual failures arising from the assembly plants, installation or turbine operation and identify design changes needed to prevent reoccurrence
  • Execute Engineering design work on mechanical components and oversee Engineering Change Orders on assigned components to ensure consistency, integration and quality.
  • Drive compliance of components and their use to international codes and standards like IEC.
  • Support other departments (Service, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Services, EHS ) integrating their needs in the design and defining contingency actions when needed (nonconformity resolution, product qualification,).
  • Identify reliability and performance improvements for components to ensure that the wind Turbine excels in commercial performance. Promote design for reliability and ensure the return of experience to the new product introduction teams.
  • Participate in the technological watch, actively promoting both the protection and the development of GE's intellectual property.
  • Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical material to internal and external audiences.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited university in Mechanical Engineering
  • Significant and demonstrated experience working on mechanical systems related projects, issues and/or technologies, and in particular on bearings and hydraulic systems
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).

  • Skilled in mechanical component design and material properties
  • Effective problem identification and solving ability (RCA)
  • Knowledge of Standards and Design Codes.
GD&T.

  • Knowledge of ANSYS or other finite element analysis tools is a plus
  • Fluency with technical drawing and GD&T
  • Experience in wind Turbine Certification Processes
  • Field issues, test and/or validation experience
  • Effective problem identification and solving ability (RCA)
  • Strong technical aptitude, interpersonal skills, and leadership skills
  • Used to deal with industrial suppliers (national and international)
  • Proven ability to work in a crossfunctional and global environment
  • Positive mindset with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in wind turbine business is a plus
