Senior Director, Tumor Council Portfolio Lead

Our Global Portfolio and Project Management Organization (GPPM) has a critical role to play in advancing our pipeline and delivering growth through innovation.

GPPM works in close partnership with; other Oncology Business Units to support decision-making, project management, resource management and governance across the Oncology portfolio.


Responsibilities:


_ Tumor Strategy Development_

  • Coordinate endtoend strategy development through engagement of Discovery Leads, Global Product Leaders, Global Clinical Heads, Commercial Brand Leaders, Medical Affairs and R&D Support Functions.
  • Integrate Tumor Strategy into enterprise business processes (e.g., Longterm Planning, Midterm Planning, Annual Scorecard) through prioritization of funding requests and cross functional alignment.
  • Drive effective communication of Tumor Strategy to the broader oncology organization, particularly progress toward the Bold Oncology Ambition of redefining cancer care.
  • Serve as the single point of contact connecting the Tumor Council with the Therapeutic Area Leadership Team and Late-Stage Portfolio Committee to support informed decisionmaking related to major clinical investments.
  • Partner with External R&D and Corporate Affairs to engage external thought leaders and drive key AstraZeneca strategic initiatives.

_ Tumor Council Operations_

  • Managing effective and efficient Tumor Council Meetings through development of agendas and identification of meeting participants to ensure relevant crossfunctional input.
  • Tracking and communicating critical decisions and actions to drive team performance.
  • Developing and tracking Tumor Council goals, membership and key external contacts.
  • Ensure effective information management aligned with enterprise standards and best practices.
  • Managing the approved budget to advance critical components of strategy including communication of progress and emerging risks to portfolio and finance leaders.

Portfolio Management_**- Developing a very detailed understanding of AstraZeneca projects within assigned disease area including critical drivers and milestones for the portfolio, changes occurring across the organization or shifts in the external environment impacting the portfolio.


  • Providing the Tumor Strategy context to inform decisionmaking that drives optimal progression of the Oncology pipeline.
  • Partnering with the Early Portfolio Director and the Late Portfolio Director to drive data accuracy in the Enterprise Portfolio Data System and a number of recurring business cycle deliverables such as enterprise monthly reports, quarterly reports and divisional yearend summaries.
  • Supporting annual longterm planning and strategy updates by analysing key data and criteria, leveraging these outputs to drive key strategic approaches and support the development of oncology strategy and prioritization.

_ Critical criteria_:


  • Significant experience working within a Global Biopharma environment, resulting in deep understanding of the industry and drug development, including concepts associated with early drug development success rates, cycle times, etc.
  • Experience in development decisionmaking for program investments.
  • Proven analytical skill set with demonstrated attention to detail, with strong understanding of how investment decisions are made in pharmaceutical industry.
  • Ability to deal with constant change and a fastpaced environment, ability to manage through complex and highly interdependent issues.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • An ability to influence without authority

_ Desirable criteria_:


  • Advanced Degree in a Scientific discipline and / or MBA
  • Indepth knowledge of drug development processes
  • Previous Portfolio Management experience or strategic leadership experience in drug development environment
