  • Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads largescale investments and HPC provision in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has over 800 staff from 55 countries.

    Context And Mission
  • The aim of the Earth System Services Group (ESS) within the Earth Sciences Department is to demonstrate the ongoing value of climate prediction services, atmospheric composition and weather forecasting to society and the economy. The group actively works in identifying user needs that partly guide research in the Department. The goal is to quantify the impact of weather, climate, aerosols and gaseous pollutants upon socioeconomic sectors through the development of useroriented services. This ensures the transfer of the technology developed and the adaptation to a rapidly changing environment.
  • The Earth System Services Group has an interdisciplinary approach closely collaborating with all research groups within the department (Climate predictions, Atmospheric compositions and Computational Earth Sciences) and support groups at the BSC (technology transfer, communications, visualization, education and outreach).

Key Duties

  • Attend to international initiatives in the field of climate services to interact with other research institutions and stakeholders
  • Clustering. Coordinate and explore synergies between research centers, academic institutions, public administration and private sector at National and International level
  • Plan and carry out userengagement activities to understand user needs, present research results in climate services and promote the participation of users in key sectors in applied research projects
  • Help to focus the research lines of the Earth System Services Group to advance sustainable development in key sectors of society

Requirements:


  • Education
  • Technical or social sciences degree (Philosophy, Economics, Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Environmental Studies, Biology, etc.)
  • Postgraduate studies on Knowledge and Technology Transfer, Sociology Economics or Communication will be valued
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
  • Experience on solutionsoriented research in the interface between poverty, development and climate change
  • Previous experience in science communication, userengagement activities and stakeholder liaison
  • Previous experience on climate services for the private sector, governance and private sector engagement for transformations to sustainability.
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
  • Experience in private sector will be valued
  • Competences
  • Ability to work in a professional environment within a multidisciplinary and international team
  • Good organizational skills and interest in project and team management issues
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Conditions

  • The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department
  • We offer a fulltime contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with stateoftheart infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
  • Duration: Openended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
  • Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
  • Starting date: 01/09/2023
