Position:
Senior Director, Translational Medicine, Oncology - Breast Cancer**
Location - Boston US, Barcelona Spain or Cambridge UK

We are seeking a Senior Director in Oncology Translational Medicine to join a world class center for discovery and development of innovative cancer medicines.

In this role you will be accountable for leading a team for delivery of robust, scientifically-driven biomarkers in drug discovery and development programs for a portfolio of targeted agents across our breast cancer portfolio.

You will have the opportunity to impact an industry-leading portfolio of targeted therapy programs from inception through to life cycle management for marketed drugs.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Leadership of a portfolio of clinical trials and accountability as a senior expert in breast cancer translational medicine.

Developing and using expertise to support the development of, strategies and objectives for Translational Medicine in area of responsibility, and ensures these are aligned to broader AstraZeneca goals and objectives

Leadership of biomarker strategies for a portfolio of clinical trials in breast cancer:
Ensuring delivery of biomarker strategies within oncology project teams.
Delivering biomarkers for clinical studies based on the best available science and technologies.
Generating disease linkage data to guide indication selection and targeted patient populations.
Measuring target engagement reliably and quantifiably to inform clinical decisions for selecting therapeutically relevant doses and schedules.
Understanding key cancer pathway interactions and feedback mechanisms in clinical samples to guide rational drug combinations.
Defining novel mechanisms of resistance targeted therapies by studying tumors at relapse.
Building networks with other teams and external stakeholders to learn about new developments, leverage opportunities and share best practices

Essential Requirements and Qualifications:

PhD and/or MD with at least 10 years of oncology experience
Extensive experience in translational medicine and drug development
Extensive experience in pharmaceutical industry
Indepth knowledge of oncology disease area biology and translational medicine, with deep expertise in breast cancer biology and AKT / ER signaling
Proven communication and influencing skills.
Highly developed problem solving and risk management skills.
Highly developed collaborative working skills.
Ability to act as an external ambassador and to influence external organisations to enhance the image and reputation of AstraZeneca.
Proven ability to mentor, motivate and develop others.
