Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field.

We are actively seeking an experienced and proactive Economic Consultant with experience in the Port /Maritime industry to join our expanding advisory team based in London.


Moffatt & Nichol is an independent global infrastructure advisor, offering market analysis and cargo forecasting for ports and terminals, shipping, intermodal and hinterland markets, in addition to the company's core engineering practices.

We undertake a wide range of market studies, competitive and strategic analyses, transaction/refining support, and detailed due diligence projects.

Our clients include port and terminal operators, financial institutions such as infrastructure and pension funds, investment banks, private lending institutions, and government entities.


This position will report to the Managing Principal and will involve working in a small London-based team, which collaborates with the wider Moffatt & Nichol advisory group in the UK, Europe, US and Latin America.


The main responsibility is to support our advisory team growth strategy and take an active role in current project work and the development of wider strategic multi-sector objectives, such as energy transition, net-zero targets etc.


Your key personal objective would be to enhance our existing project deliverables and provide additional expertise through innovation and R&D.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Independent research and insightful analysis for bespoke global advisory projects
  • Creating/developing presentation materials
  • Project delivery in a clientfacing role and generating repeat business as a direct consequence
  • Managing internal and external clients and development teams including representing Moffatt & Nichol at client meetings, conferences and events
  • Focusing on quality deliverables, customer satisfaction, and maintaining and enhancing the group's quality standards accreditation

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in economics, mathematics, operational research or supply chain/transportrelated discipline; required
  • Master's degree in economics, mathematics, operational research or supply chain/transportrelated discipline; preferred
  • 5 years+ direct experience working in a consultancy environment or the port/terminal/shipping sectors; required
  • Project management experience; preferred
  • Analytical thinking skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact professionally within multidisciplinary teams and with a diverse client portfolio
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently under pressure
  • Ability to engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Proficient MS word, PowerPoint and Excel skills are essential
  • Understanding of highlevel programming (e.g. Python) is an advantage
  • Specific interests relating to infrastructure development and/or the supply chain and logistics sector
  • Business level proficiency in English; required
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a preemployment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST

Working conditions:

Flexible working hours and arrangements (across multiple time zones and working from home). Domestic and overseas travel when required.

Position can be based out of London, Spain, or Portugal.


Physical requirements:


Majority of working hours are desk-based and there is a need for verbal and written communication with clients, and occasional overseas travel.
