The Spain Country Manager will be responsible for establishing and growing OWC's renewables business in Spain, including both onshore and offshore renewables.

Your priority will be to set up a team and to grow the business by offering full consultancy portfolio to serve this geographic market.

The key driver will be to extend the client base, securing new work in the process from our existing clients and ensuring turnover and profit levels are in line with budget expectations.


What you will be doing:

You will be responsible for establishing and growing OWC's offshore and onshore renewables business commercially and operationally in Spain.

The focus will be on organic growth and the business unit will build on OWC's strengths, ABL's infrastructure and capability in the region.


More specifically, you will:

  • Develop business and commercial strategies, action plans and associated budgets to achieve growth plans.
  • Set up and manage organizational arrangements, systems and processes to enable the efficient and effective deployment of resources.
  • Produce consultancy / engineering deliverables as part of assignments or support projects being delivered to clients in the renewables sector on a global basis.
  • Work with the existing ABL Group teams in the other regions to jointly market services where appropriate, share resources as appropriate and cross sell opportunities wherever possible.
  • Partner with the HR and TA teams to build a team and achieve headcount plans.
  • Be responsible for close control and management of subcontractor qualification, quality, costs and performance.
  • Hold overall control of the OWC Spain business unit to ensure progressive turnover, acceptable profit margins and to maintain good cost control and cash recovery.
  • Establish and maintain good client relationships with regular contact and checks on satisfaction with respect to service provision and delivery expectations.
  • Develop and motivate the OWC Spain team, fostering a high level of cooperation with other senior managers both in OWC and the wider ABL Group Offshore network.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of accurate progress and financial reports to OWC Management.
  • Ensure all projects are well resourced using a combination of local resources and where appropriate backoffice support from other OWC or ABL Group offices.
  • Work closely with other OWC Country Managers, Directors and Senior staff to ensure that technical compliance and lessons learned from previous projects across the network are transferred to our major projects.
  • Develop, gain authorisation, and execute a national specific sales and marketing plan to achieve agreed revenue and profit objectives.
  • Author technical reports and present them at conferences, all designed to showcase OWC's technical excellence.
  • Liaise and work closely with the OWC Business Development Director in both the planning and execution of sales and marketing activities.
The role is based in Madrid but will require extensive travel to different business sites, client offices, etc. both in the country and internationally. This Role offers flexibility in terms of working hours and a hybrid working environment.


What we are looking for:

Ideally, you will have a proven background in business management, P&L responsibility and possess strong commercial skills.

You might also be in a business development or engineering leadership position and looking for the next step in your career.


More specifically, we are looking for:

  • Degree qualified in an engineering discipline related to renewable business. A Masters or PhD in an engineering discipline is a plus.
  • At least 8 years of relevant professional experience within the Renewable Energy Industry. You must have commercial experience and background of managing a P&L within a business unit.
  • Substantial operational experience within a consultancy or utility company and strong commercial background in engineering consultancy in the renewables sector is required.
  • Experience with Spain's offshore markets/power sector would be beneficial. In addition, experience in the European offshore markets/experience and/or knowledge of floating wind or floating solar technologies or projects is a plus.
  • Proven successful track record of identifying and converting opportunities into sales.
