About the team/job
EMBL Barcelona is a new research unit focusing on Tissue Biology and Disease Modelling.

We aim to go beyond the molecular and cellular scale, integrating gene circuits with a tissue-level quantitative understanding of tissues and organs, both healthy and diseased.

We are seeking to recruit a research technician to work on the Bernabeu group at EMBL Barcelona.


Your role

Tasks will include:
- _Plasmodium falciparum_ culture, includes thawing, freezing, expansion and keeping a tight synchronization of the parasites
- maintaining supplies (preparing and ordering reagents)
- preparation of cell media and buffers
- processing of blood products
- molecular biology work (e.g., RNA extraction, PCR, RT-PCR)
- when necessary, to back up on administrative work required for the research projects of the laboratory

Some of these tasks might require working afterhours and on weekends. Adjustments on the working hours will be made in agreement with the line manager.


You have
- a Master's or PhD degree in biology or related life science field
- at least 1 year experience culturing _Plasmodium falciparum._

Note:
experience in mammalian or human cell culture will not be considered as equivalent
- at least 3 years of experience working in a research laboratory
- background in basic molecular biology and tissue culture techniques
- strong organization skills to keep the tissue culture room up and running, and to coordinate cultures for multiple lab members
- strong communication skills to interact with the team and internal/external contacts
- fluency in English


You might also have
Knowledge of the Spanish language is advantageous but not required.
