SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Protects swimmers from hazardous conditions by ensuring that safety and pool rules and regulations are enforced. Supervises swimmers for safety and crowd control. Performs rescue work, promptly renders emergency first aid, and calls for medical assistance as necessary. Performs water and land rescues equal to the standard of training when a water emergency is taking place (e.g. drowning, medical or trauma in the water). Manages respiratory and cardiac emergencies to include performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bag-valve-mask resuscitation, or automatic external defibrillation (AED).

Uses and maintains care of emergency equipment such as specialized kits and rescue bags, backboards, head immobilizers, suction devices, splints, stretchers, oxygen delivery systems, and monitoring equipment.

Controls external bleeding and treats shock. May splint and immobilize fractures and dislocations for transport.

Attempts to ascertain whether the patron has preexisting medical problems and to obtain a critical medical history from the patron.

Teaches various swimming skills and water safety for all age groups. Prepares material for classes being taught. Ensures the safety of all patrons in the class.

Responsible for solving any problems related to work. Keeps Assistant Manager informed as to all problem areas and new methods of accomplishing assignments. Assists in the training of assigned lifeguards and recreational swimming instructors.

Administers swim tests. Schedules use of lanes and pool space for patrons. Instructs patrons on proper swimming pool etiquette and techniques. During emergency situations, assume a leadership position and takes control of the emergency situation. Responsible for conducting opening and closing procedures of the facility.

Operates Rec Trac, monitors cashiers. Ensures cashiers are properly trained in the use of Rec Trac and proper cash handling procedures. Ensures funds are collected. Ensures receipts are verified and that the deposits are made daily. Ensures receipts are in order and change fund is secured daily. May check I.D. cards for authorized patrons and collect usage fees, if applicable.

Responsible for the supervision and safety of the aquatics staff


Supervises staff to include:

assigning and distributing work, coaching, counseling, training, and mentoring employees; approving and disapproving leave; recommending and completing personnel actions.

Must be alert to alcohol and substance abuse and take appropriate action.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a professional and friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards.

Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.

Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance is required, while performing normal duties in the area.

May perform work that poses physical demands beyond normal requirements during rescue. Work may be performed in settings where exposure to moderate discomforts, high temperatures, and/or adverse weather conditions exist.


Qualifications:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in aquatic recreational activities.
  • One year of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use and perform maintenance of pool equipment.
  • Understanding of and the ability to enforce rigid safety
