Position Overview:

In the team of CropScience data & Analytics, we're looking for a
Data Scientist


The individual works collaboratively with interdisciplinary scientists, Enterprise IT and engineering professionals across the organizations to solve critical problems and answer important questions that drive key decisions for our business.

Fosters new game changing ideas to produce sophisticated, intelligent optimization solutions and predictive models.

Works on a team as an individual contributor with other Data Scientists.


YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Data Scientist, are to:

  • Manage cross-functional projects that identify the best use of environmental layers and/or integrate them into predictive models, with a particular focus on crop performance, location optimization, and crop growth models;
  • Use machine learning and statistical modeling to conduct analysis of highdimensional and multilayered experimental data from cutting edge environmental IoT sensors deployed in the open field and protected environments;
  • Develop the modeling framework for environmental clustering, classification, and field characterization to optimize testing footprint and product performance using soil properties and climatological dataset;
  • Contribute substantially to key interdisciplinary data science projects, esp. to create novel scientific insights and starting points by analyzing data on a global scale;
  • Improve modeling efficiencies, teach environmental and statistical concepts, and manage projects for increased precision and testing efficiency in collaboration with a crossfunctional group of Geneticists, Field Testing Scientists, and Breeder;
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders across Research and Development (R&D), Enterprise IT, and other parts of Vegetable Seeds and Crop Science R&D as necessary;
  • Automate analytics workflows for all R&D to leverage insight from environmental and phenotypic data sets data assets.

More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:


Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.
D., or Master's degree with at least two years of experience, or Bachelor's degree with at least five years of experience (All years of experience in Environmental Modeling, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Machine Learning, or another highly related discipline);

  • Excellent understanding of data science principles and statistical algorithms and methods for environmental model performance evaluation;
  • Sufficient understanding of environmental and geospatial data structures and sufficient experience in spatial analysis and algorithms using soil and climatological data layers;
  • Proficiency in applied programming and/or manipulation of data with a programing language such as Python, R, and SQL;
  • Extensive knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence, including data pipelines;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in crossfunctional environment;
  • Advanced experience in Amazon Web Services or other cloud platforms;
  • Excellent understanding of coding best practices, version control and documentation;
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing environments and ambiguous situations;
  • Visionary mindset and ability to think and act strategically, combined with execution orientation;
  • High ability to solve problems and to structure and simplify complex tasks;
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to an international and dynamic research and development team.
