BCNatal | Fetal Medicine Research Center is conducting a research project to develop an artificial placenta, which involves animal experimentation. We are looking for a passionate individual to work as Expert in Fetal/Placental Physiology to perform a key position.
Context


BCNatal | Fetal Medicine Research Center, directed by Prof. Eduard Gratacós, is a multidisciplinary research centre in fetal and perinatal medicine, recognised as one of the world's best research teams in the field.


Accredited by the Spanish government as an excellence research centre, it works to find solutions to diseases of prenatal origin.

The centre is ranked among the top international research groups in maternal-fetal medicine.


BCNatal-FMRC is the research branch of the BCNatal clinical centre, providing a privileged environment for clinically applicable and translational research.

ain purpose of the job:


  • Lead on the understanding on fetal/placental physiology during human and animal pregnancy, and supervision and development of the optimal medical/nutritional/hormonal support schemes for lamb/pig fetuses maintained in an artificial placenta system.

Main duties and responsibilities:


  • Work in close collaboration within a larger team with the main aim of understanding on fetal/placental physiology during humans' and animals' pregnancy.
  • Conduct systematic indepth literature reviews and design adhoc experiments, both leading to the definition of the optimal medical/nutritional/hormonal support protocols to maintain fetuses in the artificial placenta system and evaluate the impact in key organs.
  • Develop and supervise projects involving fetal/placental physiology (i.e. impact of nutrition and hormones in fetal growth and development, definition of normal ranges of nutrients and hormones in both human and animal pregnancy, ).

Other tasks:


  • Develop documentation including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Biological sample extraction, collection and processing.
  • Participation in the animal experimentation procedures.
  • Contribution to the publication of research results in national and international journals.
  • Presentation of research results at national and international conferences.
  • Maintain accurate records and document actions taken.
  • Ensure prompt and efficient response to queries (daily trouble shooting), acknowledging all communication, and ensuring efficient flow of information.
  • Comply with the 4Rs (reduction, reuse, recycling and recovery) and ethics involving animals in research.

Key Profile Requirements:

Experience working with animal models is desirable.

They should have good organizational and time management skills. They should also have the ability to organize and prioritize a varied and demanding workload.
