Primark es una cadena irlandesa de tiendas de moda que pertenece al grupo Associated British Foods. La empresa está especializada en ropa y complementos a precios bajos. La mayoría de prendas que venden se fabrican exclusivamente para el grupo, pero también se comercializan prendas fuera de temporada de otras marcas.

En 1969 se abrió la primera tienda del grupo en la calle Mary Street de Dublín, que recibió el nombre de Penneys. En menos de un año se inauguraron cuatro tiendas más en el área de la capital irlandesa, y en 1971 se abrió el primer local en la ciudad de Cork. Dos años después, el grupo llegó a Reino Unido como Primark, donde fue expandiéndose con el paso de los años. En 2000 Primark aprovechó la retirada de C&A del mercado británico para adquirir sus locales, lo que le ayudó a superar los 100 establecimientos.

Desde 2006 Primark ha iniciado un plan de expansión internacional en el continente europeo, que comenzó con la inauguración de una tienda en un centro comercial en Madrid (España), donde contó con buena aceptación. En 2009, la compañía también ha abierto negocios en Portugal, Países Bajos, Alemania y Bélgica. Actualmente, el nombre comercial Penneys se utiliza sólo en la República de Irlanda, mientras que en el resto de países se llama Primark.
En 2009 el fundador Arthur Ryan abandonó la compañía, por lo que el grupo emprendió una renovación en todos sus cargos directivos.

Here at Primark, we do things a little differently to bring affordable fashion for all without compromising our strong ethical values.

Primark does not own factories and we are very selective about who we work with.
The welfare of the people making our products matters to us.

Before we place an order with a new supplier we audit each factory to check whether internationally-recognised standards are being met. Once approved, it’s the job of our Ethical Trade and Environmental Sustainability Team, a group of more than 100 experts based in key sourcing countries, to help factories meet these standards.
They audit suppliers at least once a year, sometime more, so that we can get a detailed picture of what conditions are like inside the factory.

As well as working directly with suppliers and their factories, we believe we can play a role alongside other retailers, NGOs and other organisations, to improve ethical and environmental standards in the industry.
That’s why we’re a member of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, we committed to Greenpeace’s Detox Campaign in 2014 and are a founding member of the ACT initiative on wages.

We’ve also been a member of the Ethical Trading Initiative since 2006 and have achieved the top level ‘leadership’ status since 2011.

We are also proud to state that own-brand cosmetics at Primark have been awarded coveted Leaping Bunny status by Cruelty Free International, the gold standard certification programme for products that are free from animal testing.

From now on, the entire Primark PS… range including make-up, skincare and haircare products feature the Leaping Bunny logo, a visible reminder that cosmetics at Primark are officially cruelty free.

Leaping Bunny accreditation at Primark means there’s now even more choice for people looking for affordable cosmetics on the high street that are not only guaranteed cruelty free but also follow the latest trends and deliver as well as more expensive products.
With over 2,500 products and 7,000 individual ingredients verified, the certification programme is one of the largest ever undertaken by Cruelty Free International.
