I’m a Spanish data journalist who made a name for myself in the cycling world by publishing and analysing a secret ranking.
I have always been a data geek and am open to career opportunities in data analysis, data journalism and digital marketing. I love making visualisations of complex data so that people can understand it quickly.
Experiencia
My first paid job was at the specialized cycling media Zikloland. They were interested in my work on my Twitter account and I joined before finishing my university degree, in 2019. There I published my first pieces of data journalism, like this one, in addition to covering current affairs with news, previews, chronicles or interviews. The experience ended when the pandemic arrived.
Since 2022, I have been collaborating with the international media Lanterne Rouge to update and analyze the secret ranking that was used to determine the promotions and relegations in cycling. I have been able to put into practice more advanced knowledge of data analysis. For example, I created a Monte Carlo simulation to calculate the relegation/promotion probabilities of the teams involved in the relegation battle.
My work was closely followed by the cycling teams themselves. Thus, in 2023 I am having the opportunity to collaborate as a data analyst with the American team Human Powered Health, from the first division of women’s cycling.
In between, I worked as marketing manager at the restaurant Parrilla Albarracín (Zaragoza), from the beginning of the pandemic until October 2022. My challenge was to help the restaurant to digitize and adapt to the new post-covid ecosystem. In my portfolio you can see a summary of my work and results there.
Currently, I also manage two side projects related to data visualization: the Instagram account pro_cycling_data and the Twitter account @F1Graficos. This Twitter account delves into Formula 1, a sport that I love and that generates a huge amount of data every Grand Prix.
Educación
My passion for journalism made me choose this university career, although from a very young age I excelled in science subjects. When I was 13 years old I was a finalist in the Aragonese Mathematical Olympiad and when I was 17 years old I was second of Aragón in the Economics Olympiad and I participated in the Spanish final in Málaga.
Eventually, I decided to combine both worlds and specialize in data journalism. I complemented my training with a master’s degree in digital marketing and an intensive course in Big Data, with which I better understood the applications of data analysis in companies. Currently, I am taking the IBM Data Analyst Professional Certificate.
My skills include working with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power BI, Looker Studio or the programming languages SQL and Python. In addition, I am proficient in Datawrapper and Flourish visualization software. I always try to be as accurate as possible and thoroughly review my work on each of my projects.
