Oilbhe Nathan

I am a fully qualified Primary School Teacher with a Bachelor of Education from Dublin City University. I have experience in a range of educational settings, with children from junior infants to sixth class; including mainstream classes, learning support and special education teaching.
 

I have recently relocated to Barcelona and am looking to grow my professional knowledge and skills. I am a dedicated worker and have a passion for learning new things. I am a fast learner and put my all into any position I have. 

My most recent employment was undertaken in a DEIS band one school from August 2020 to November 2022. My roles in this school included learning support for junior infants 2020/2021, junior infant class teacher 2021/2022 and senior infant class teacher 2022. 

During my time in this school, I facilitated homework clubs after school, a literacy summer camp and supplementary tuition for children with special educational needs during Covid 19 lockdowns.

This experience has enabled me to improve on and gain skills such as time management, organisation, planning and classroom management. I have also learned how to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment with the ability to adapt in challenging situations.

I have two years customer service working for a gourmet grocery store in Ireland, as well as three months working in a delicatessen, in Canada during some time travelling. The nature of these positions included ensuring customer service was of a very high standard as well as serving and upselling supermarket and deli goods. During my time in Donnybrook Fair in Ireland, I was also involved in over the phone sales of large catering and Christmas orders.

 

I graduated from Dublin City University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Education. During my first two years in University I studied curriculum courses that prepared me to teach all the subjects of the primary curriculum using approaches that develop children’s understanding and motivation. I also undertook modules in Psychology, Philosophy, Sociology of Education and History of Education.

The subsequent years continued to reinforce my knowledge of all of these subjects as well taught me how to work with children in ways that are democratic and enable them to engage in an ethical way with the world. I was consistently provided with opportunities to think about big ideas in education such as social justice, inclusion and working in a school community.

During my final year, I undertook an Action Research Project. The question that guided my research was; “How can song-singing be used to promote social inclusion and respect for diversity in the primary classroom?”. The premise of this project was to identify how music can be used as a tool for inclusion on a day-to-day basis with children in the classroom.
