Maija Sukute

My name is Maija and I am a dancer, aerialist, choreographer and contemporary dance teacher. 

After completing my early dance training in variety of dance schools and studios in Latvia, I graduated with honours from Latvian Academy of Music, earning Bachelors degree in Choreography and Dance Pedagogy. My training includes contemporary dance, jazz dance, contemporary jazz dance, improvisation techniques, floor work, dance acrobatics, hip-hop/street dance, show dance, and foundation training in Latin ballroom dance, historical dance, character dance and folk dance. 

For the past 6.5 years, I have also worked as an aerialist and circus artist, specialising in dance trapeze, static trapeze, aerial silks, aerial hoop and loops (also trained in aerial rope and straps) . During this time, I performed as a dancer, choreographer and circus artist at Riga Circus, Letonia.

Over the last 10 years, I have collaborated with Latvia’s leading choreographers, artistic directors, theatre directors and producers. I performed for 6 years in Cabaret Riga shows as a dancer, aerialist and actor. I have created and performed in interdisciplinary dance and circus shows, taken part in a wide range of cultural and corporate events, toured as a dancer for local musical artists. My versatility and dynamic stage presence allows me to adapt quickly to diverse choreographic languages, styles and roles. 

For the past 7 years I have worked as a teacher and educator in Riga Circus school and various dance studios. I have an open and friendly presence, I can make people laugh easily and I really enjoy work in a busy & energy filled environment.
